They are expected to exercise original thought and judgment, and supervise the technical and administrative work of other software engineers. They must build skills and expertise to meet standard software engineer expectations and collaborate effectively with other engineers and stakeholders. They should be highly respected, experienced, and trusted, mastering all phases of the software development lifecycle.

1. Applies scientific methods to analyse and solve software engineering problems.
