The Manager, Data Engineering will lead and manage a team of data engineers, providing coaching and mentorship. The role involves developing frameworks, data models, tools, and processes to ensure data-driven decision-making, serving as a subject matter expert on data platforms, and contributing to team growth through recruitment. The team develops cutting-edge data pipelines for data products, models, reports, analyses, and machine learning applications. The Manager will also lead and inspire a team of world class data engineers, providing coaching and mentorship on a regular basis.
Must have:
  • 10+ years of software development experience at enterprise level.
  • 3+ years managing a team of 4+ people.
  • Experience in Data Engineering with ETL, data modeling, big data.
Good to have:
  • Experience working with Real-Time and Near-Real-Time streaming pipelines.
  • Experience with Java or C# programming languages.
  • Experience with event processing frameworks.

Rockstar is seeking a Manager, Data Engineering to join a team focused on building cutting-edge experience in our games. The ideal candidate will be skilled in developing complex ingestion and transformation processes with an emphasis on reliability and performance. In collaboration with other data engineers, database administrators, and software engineers, the candidate will empower the team of data scientists and data analysts to deliver data driven insights and applications to company stakeholders.

This is a full-time, in-office position based out of Rockstar’s NYC headquarters in Downtown Manhattan.   

WHAT WE DO

  • The Data & Analytics team provides insights and actionable results to a wide variety of stakeholders across the organization in support of their decision making. 
  • We innovate as a global team to develop cutting-edge data pipelines serving data products, data models, reports, analyses, and machine learning applications. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, manage, and inspire a team of world class data engineers, providing coaching and mentorship on a regular basis.   
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, set individual goals, and provide constructive feedback. 
  • Collaborate with executives and stakeholders to define project scope, objectives and deliverables.   
  • Establish project timelines, monitor progress, and ensure milestones are met. 
  • Work collaboratively with cross functional teams.  
  • Review and provide feedback on software architecture and system design.  
  • Encourage strong engineering practices by establishing coding guidelines and participating in the code review process. 
  • Lead the development of frameworks, data models, tools, and processes to ensure data influences decisions at all levels. 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on our data platform and data pipelines, actively contributing to their development and guiding their future direction. 
  • Oversee the development of automated data quality checks and operational support strategies. 
  • Contribute to the growth of the team and organization by participating in the recruitment process of top-tier data engineers.  

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional software development experience at an enterprise level organization. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing and supervising a team of 4 or more people. 
  • Experience related to Data Engineering, demonstrating strong proficiency in ETL, data modeling, business intelligence, big data architectures and technologies such as Python, Spark, SQL, Databricks and Kafka. 
  • Experience working with data platforms deployed in a cloud environment such as Azure, AWS, GCP or private cloud. 
  • Strong experience in massively parallel processing & columnar databases. 
  • Experience building Real-Time and/or Near-Real-Time data pipelines. 
  • Experience working in a Linux environment.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain good relations and communicate with people at all seniority levels.  
  • Establishing relationships with team members to foster growth. 
  • Work with production and product management teams to define schedules and product roadmaps. 
  • Proven ability to reconcile technical and business perspectives. 
  • Proven ability to break down technical problems from requirements. 
  • Plan and prioritize work. 
  • Autonomy and entrepreneurship. 
  • Passion for mentoring and coaching team members to foster professional growth.
