Job Summary:
The PostgreSQL Database Administrator is responsible for managing and supporting highly available and secure PostgreSQL environments hosted in AWS RDS/Aurora. This is a mid-level role on the centralized infrastructure team, combining traditional DBA responsibilities with cloud-native practices and production support. The ideal candidate will bring experience in performance troubleshooting, automation via Terraform and Flyway, and hands-on involvement with access control, encryption, and auditing in AWS environments.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage and support Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL databases across production and non-production environments.
- Monitor database performance, availability, and health using CloudWatch, New Relic, and PostgreSQL-native tools.
- Diagnose and resolve database performance issues, query bottlenecks, and system-level resource concerns.
- Implement and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform; support database deployments via Flyway.
- Participate in CI/CD workflows for schema changes and environment provisioning.
- Implement and support access controls, encryption settings, and auditing mechanisms aligned with SOC2 compliance efforts.
- Maintain and improve backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes for Aurora PostgreSQL.
- Work with developers, DevOps engineers, and application teams to advise on query optimization, schema design, and best practices.
- Contribute to automation and scripting efforts (e.g., SQL, Bash, Python) to support operations and performance monitoring.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and assist with incident response related to database performance or availability.
- Document procedures, configurations, and operational runbooks for internal use.
- Adherence to and application of Envestnet legal, compliance, risk, business continuity and administrative policy within the role and department(s) including the timely completion of training & awareness, affirmations and testing as requested.
- As part of the responsibilities for this role, you will understand and readily support Envestnet's established corporate business practices, policies, internal controls and procedures designed to create value or minimize risk.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
- 2–5 years of experience administering PostgreSQL databases, including production support.
- Relevant certifications in PostgreSQL, MS SQL, AWS, or database administration.
- Hands-on experience with Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL or RDS PostgreSQL in AWS.
- Strong understanding of performance tuning, query analysis, and index optimization.
- Experience using Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and Flyway (or similar) for schema migrations.
- Proficiency with CloudWatch, New Relic, and native PostgreSQL monitoring/troubleshooting tools.
- Familiarity with encryption, role-based access control (RBAC), and audit logging
- Scripting knowledge in SQL, PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
- Understanding of networking, IAM, and general cloud infrastructure concepts within AWS.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to work cross-functionally with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting high-transaction, mission-critical database workloads.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CodePipeline) for database deployments.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC2 or HIPAA, from an infrastructure support perspective.
