The Principal Level Designer will be responsible for designing, prototyping, and refining 3D levels, balancing exploration, combat, and storytelling in linear and semi-open spaces. They will own level development from concept to final polish, including layout, encounter setup, scripting, and spatial pacing. This role involves driving the player experience, collaborating with various teams, and producing design documentation. They will also set the quality standard and mentor junior designers.
Must have:
  • 8+ years of experience in Level Design on console/PC AA or AAA titles
  • Experience with a shipped third-person action game with large, cinematic levels
  • Experience working with custom or proprietary engines and scripting tools
  • Deep understanding of pacing, spatial design, and combat readability
  • Expertise in designing for linear or semi-open level structures
  • Strong foundation in combat encounter design
  • Experience creating levels with tight visual direction
  • Excellent communication skills
Good to have:
  • Experience working on a remake of an existing IP
  • Strong visual composition and environmental storytelling instincts
  • Previous leadership experience or interest in a Lead role
  • Comfort reviewing and giving actionable feedback
  • Understanding of visual scripting systems
  • Prior experience with real-time cinematic tools

The next great challenge is coming: 
We’re looking for a Principal Level Designer to join our team on an unannounced AAA remake of a critically recognized third-person action game. 

Superpowers you have:

  • 8+ years of experience in Level Design roles on console/PC AA or AAA titles.  
  • A shipped third-person action or combat-heavy game, with hands-on responsibility for large, cinematic levels.  
  • Experience working with custom or proprietary engines, with a strong grasp of real-time workflows, terrain systems, and in-editor scripting tools.  
  • Deep understanding of pacing, spatial design, and combat readability in complex environments.  
  • Expertise in designing for linear or semi-open level structures, emphasizing player agency within choreographed encounters.  
  • Strong foundation in combat encounter design, especially melee-based or group-combat scenarios.  
  • Experience creating levels with tight visual direction, supporting both gameplay and cinematics.  
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to express level design goals clearly and cross-functionally. 

You’re a rockstar if you have:

  • Experience working on a remake or reimagining of an existing IP.  
  • Strong visual composition and environmental storytelling instincts.  
  • Previous leadership experience or interest in stepping into a Lead Level Designer role.  
  • Comfort reviewing and giving actionable feedback to team members.  
  • Understanding of visual scripting systems, especially node-based workflows.  
  • Prior experience with real-time cinematic tools and integrating narrative moments into level flow.  
  • Proactive mindset, ownership over quality, and a strong eye for polish.

  • Design, prototype, and refine expansive 3D levels that balance exploration, combat, and storytelling within tightly choreographed, linear and semi-open spaces.  
  • Own level development from concept through final polish: layout, encounter setup, scripting, and spatial pacing.  
  • Drive the player experience through world structure, gameplay rhythm, navigation flow, and environmental storytelling.  
  • Collaborate closely with game designers, narrative, art, and technical teams to ensure levels support all pillars of the game.  
  • Maintain and iterate on levels based on internal playtests and design feedback loops.  
  • Produce clear and thorough design documentation including level maps, encounter flows, and pacing diagrams.  
  • Set the standard for quality within the Level Design team and support junior designers as a mentor and role model.
