The Mill Supervisor coordinates milling activities to ensure all projects meet high quality standards, stay within budget, maximize efficiencies, and are completed in a timely manner to satisfy customer requirements. This role involves planning production, ensuring quality, managing schedules and inventory, and collaborating with engineering and procurement. The supervisor also oversees safety, employee performance, equipment maintenance, and promotes cross-training and accurate ERP reporting.
Must have:
  • Plan and organize production activities to meet customer demands.
  • Ensure customer quality expectations via first article process and periodic checks.
  • Work with scheduling to ensure attainable daily schedules.
  • Work with procurement for material availability and accuracy; maintain WIP inventory.
  • Work with engineering through ECR process for BOM issues or improvements.
  • Control resource use to minimize costs and maintain efficiencies.
  • Ensure activities follow health and safety procedures.
  • Maintain high employee morale by promoting great leadership principles.
  • Monitor employee performance and take appropriate action.
  • Lead maintenance to ensure equipment is well maintained and maximize effectiveness.
  • Promote cross training on machinery for efficiency and flexibility.
  • Provide leadership for correct material and labor transactions in ERP.
  • Recommend training programs to upgrade employee skills.
Good to have:
  • Preferably in the consumer environments industry
  • ERP preferred

Job Summary

The Mill Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the activities for workers responsible for the milling of products to ensure all projects meet a high quality, within budget, maximizing efficiencies and in a timely manner in order to meet customer’s requirements.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize the production activities of the mill to ensure that the required products are milled in time to meet the customer demands.
  • Ensure customer quality expectations per engineering prints via a first article process and periodic quality checks
  • Work with scheduling to ensure that all schedules are attainable on a daily basis
  • Work with procurement to ensure material availability and accuracy to meet schedules. Maintain WIP inventory
  • Work with engineering through the ECR process to correct any BOM issues or improvements
  • Control the use of all resources to ensure that costs are minimized and efficiencies are maintained
  • Ensure all activities are done in accordance with health and safety procedures
  • Maintain high morale among all employees by promoting and enforcing principles of great leadership
  • Monitor the performance of employees and take appropriate action regarding promotions, demotions, leaves and disciplinary actions
  • Lead the maintenance function to ensure all equipment is well maintained, free from down time and set up to maximize effectiveness. Ensure that daily operator preventive maintenance is performed
  • Promote cross training across on machinery to enhance efficiency and flexibility
  • Provide leadership to ensure all employees follow the correct procedures in reporting material and labor transactions in the ERP system
  • Recommend training programs to upgrade the skills of employees under direct supervision

Qualifications

  • 7+ years milling experience in a wood and/or metal manufacturing environment, preferrably in the consumer environments industry
  • 5+ years experience as a Mill Supervisor in a wood and/or metal manufacturing environment, preferrably in the consumer environments industry
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, material optimization and CNC Programming
  • Understanding of CNC Equipment
  • Ability to create and maintain spreadsheets along with an understanding of manufacturing computer software (ERP preferred)
  • Must be able to take independent action, to act as a problem solver and possess excellent communication skills
  • Technical Skills – must be proficient in computer numerical controls (CNCs) and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and FANUC controls and Mazak controls. Must be proficient with robotics integration with CNCs
  • Troubleshooting Skills – Ability to troubleshoot machine problems and determine resolutions, both basic and advanced.
  • Team Work – Shares information with supervisor and other team members in a manner that is understandable
  • Problem Solving – Requires strong programming, mechanical, and electrical problem solving skills
  • Organizational – Organization skills that include record keeping with accurate and complete documentation
  • Safety and Security – Observes safety and security procedures, including Lock-out/Tag-out; reports and or corrects potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly
