Job Description

An exciting opportunity for a Proof Inspector at Rolls-Royce's Precision Casting Facility in Derby. This role involves ensuring turbine blades and equipment meet stringent aerospace standards through technical inspection processes. Responsibilities include programming and operating CMM and 3D structured light systems, collaborating with engineering, performing First Article Inspections, and maintaining inspection standards to support the performance and safety of jet engines.
Must Have:
  • Programme a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) using MCOSOMOS Mitutoyo software, creating calibration programmes for fixtures, model blades, Op proving and FAIR programmes to validate production inspection processes.
  • Programme and operate a 3D structured light system (GOM ScanBox) and analyse data using Polyworks IMInspect software to support calibration, tooling, reference data collection and FAIR validation.
  • Work closely with Operations and Engineering to prioritise workloads, providing shop floor support with CMM and GOM assets and troubleshooting.
  • Carry out First Article Inspections (FAI) on new blades, proving the integrity of production and inspection fixtures.
  • Use inspection tools such as sine tables, ball pins, slip gauges, micrometers, verniers and height gauges, applying trigonometry and advanced mathematical calculations.
  • Maintain blade inspection standards, including Quality Assurance Standard (QAS) audits of blade records, master blade storage and recording, and compliance with inspection and quality disciplines.
  • Completed a time-served apprenticeship to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).
  • Practical experience in operating and programming CMM machines.
  • Experience in programming Polyworks or other CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of casting, machining and tooling drawings, including geometric and dimensional tolerancing (ASME & ISO Standards).
  • Ability to perform trigonometry and compound angle calculations.
  • First principles measurement skills using sine tables, height gauges, sine bars and slip gauges.

What you’ll be doing:
