Job Description

We are seeking a visionary and deeply technical Software Architect for Quality Engineering to define and drive the overarching quality strategy for the Salesforce platform. This pivotal role involves architecting a comprehensive quality framework, leading test automation, championing quality best practices, and managing risk-based testing in the Hyperforce public cloud environment (AWS/GCP). The ideal candidate will collaborate cross-functionally and mentor engineers to ensure robust, scalable, and secure products.

  • Champion quality best practices and a "shift-left" mindset across the engineering organization.
  • Analyze complex system architectures to identify high-risk areas and design effective testing strategies.
  • Define the strategy for managing test environments and data within Hyperforce infrastructure.
  • Collaborate closely with development, operations, and product management teams to ensure quality.
  • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to quality engineers and developers on modern testing techniques.
  • 12+ years of experience in software development and/or quality engineering.
  • 5+ years in a technical leadership role within quality engineering (e.g., Test Architect or Principal Quality Engineer).
  • 5+ years of experience working in a large-scale SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS environment.
  • Strong programming skills in an object-oriented language such as Java or Python.

Job Summary: We are seeking a visionary and deeply technical Software Architect for Quality Engineering to define and drive the overarching quality strategy for the Salesforce platform. This is a pivotal role that will shape how we approach testing and quality assurance in the Hyperforce era. You will be responsible for architecting a comprehensive quality framework that spans from unit and integration testing to end-to-end performance and security validation. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a strong background in software development, quality assurance, and public cloud technologies, who is passionate about building quality into the development process from the very beginning.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Architect a Holistic Quality Strategy: Design and implement a comprehensive, modern quality architecture for the Salesforce platform, considering the unique challenges and opportunities of the Hyperforce public cloud environment (AWS/GCP).
  • Lead Test Automation Frameworks: Drive the vision and technical direction for our test automation frameworks. Ensure they are scalable, efficient, and capable of supporting continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) at a massive scale.
  • Champion Quality Best Practices: Act as the primary advocate for quality across the engineering organization. Promote a "shift-left" mindset, embedding quality gates and best practices throughout the entire software development lifecycle.
  • Risk-Based Test Management: Analyze complex system architectures and project requirements to identify high-risk areas, and design a testing strategy that prioritizes efforts effectively.
  • Environment and Data Management Strategy: Define the strategy for managing test environments and data within our Hyperforce infrastructure to ensure stable, reliable, and consistent testing.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with development, operations, and product management teams to ensure quality is a shared responsibility and a key consideration in all architectural and design decisions.
  • Mentorship and Guidance: Provide expert guidance and mentorship to quality engineers and developers on testing best practices, modern tools, and advanced testing techniques.

Successful candidates will have the following skills:

  • Deep Quality Expertise: Industry-expert level in understanding of quality concerns and validation techniques. Able to drive behaviors and initiatives that both focus on quality and throughput through innovation and processes.
  • Strong Architectural Acumen: The ability to design and architect complex, large-scale quality frameworks and test automation solutions. Evaluate the pattern of defect insertion resulting from our software development activities. The candidate will advocate for process/technical changes to reduce or prevent defects in future projects. Drives discussions and articulates to any internal or external audience how our software development processes ensure consistent high-quality results.
  • Cloud-Native Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of public cloud platforms, particularly AWS and/or GCP, and their associated services and architectures.
  • Test Automation Mastery: Extensive experience with a variety of test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Playright, Selenium etc.) and a strong understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.
  • CI/CD and DevOps Knowledge: A solid understanding of continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and how to integrate quality gates effectively. Drives decisions of complex or controversial issues in open forums such as concept reviews, VAT discussions, and cross team discussions.
  • Excellent Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to analyze complex technical challenges and devise innovative and practical solutions.
  • Leadership and Influence: The candidate should influence the direction R&D as a whole through technical, process, or product knowledge leadership. Able are able to drive initiatives across R&D.

Required Experience:

  • Industry Experience: 12+ years of experience in software development and/or quality engineering.
  • Quality Leadership Experience: 5+ years of experience in a technical leadership role within quality engineering, such as a Test Architect or Principal Quality Engineer.
  • SaaS/PaaS/IaaS Experience: 5+ years of experience working in a large-scale SaaS, PaaS, or IaaS environment.
  • Programming Proficiency: Strong programming skills in an object-oriented language such as Java or Python. Experience with Apex, Go, and Javascript is a plus.
  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in designing and implementing large-scale quality and test automation strategies that have had a significant impact on product quality and reliability.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $251,900 to $384,100.
