nDreams is seeking a Senior Programmer to contribute to the development of innovative VR games. This role involves designing and implementing game features, systems, and tools, working closely with teams across art, design, and programming. The Senior Programmer will be responsible for leading specific subdisciplines (e.g., Graphics, UI, Networking, AI) and acting as an expert consultant for that area. Responsibilities include designing and implementing runtime systems, debugging and resolving issues, optimizing game performance across platforms, and rapid prototyping. This permanent, full-time role can be based in either Brighton or Farnborough offices, or remotely within the UK.
Must have:
  • Advanced C++ knowledge, high-performance programming
  • Unreal Engine C++ extensions, game framework, blueprint scripting
  • Expertise in a game development area (e.g., Graphics, Gameplay, AI)
  • Self-learning, mentoring, knowledge sharing
  • Efficient problem-solving and complex task management
Good to have:
  • Published PC, console, or mobile game development experience
  • Multiplayer game development experience, best practices knowledge
  • Professional experience with Unreal 4 or 5, Unity experience a plus

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Programmer to develop and maintain game features, systems and tools for innovative VR (virtual reality) games.

In this role, you will work regularly with staff from disciplines including Programming, Art, and Design. The Senior Programmer will also be accountable for one or more specialist subdisciplines, applying their knowledge and acting as an expert consultant for that area. Examples include Graphics, UI (user interface) programming, network programming, AI (artificial intelligence) programming, user experience/gameplay programming, etc.

The rundown:

  • Permanent role.
  • Full-time (37.5 hours per week).
  • Based out of our Brighton or Farnborough offices, or remote.
  • The salary for this role is competitive and dependent on experience.

Key responsibilities:

  • Designing and implementing runtime systems, game features or tools.
  • Debugging and resolving issues with game functionality.
  • Optimising game systems for performant operation on diverse platforms.
  • Rapid prototyping to quickly realise and iterate on game concepts.

Requirements

About you

The skills you’ll need:

  • Advanced knowledge of C++ including high-performance programming
  • A thorough understanding of Unreal Engine’s C++ extensions, game framework and blueprint scripting.
  • An advanced understanding of at least one specialist area of game development – for example Graphics, Gameplay/UX (user experience), Animation, Networking, UI (user interface), Tools, AI (artificial intelligence).
  • Self-learning and mentoring - Someone who desires to research, learn, and improve their knowledge, and pass that knowledge on to others.
  • Capable of understanding complex tasks to produce results efficiently.

The nice to haves:

  • Proven experience developing high-quality features for published PC, console or mobile titles.
  • Experience working on a multiplayer game and working knowledge of best practices during development.
  • Experience working professionally with Unreal 4 or 5, with Unity experience being a bonus!
