Job Description

This role is for a Technical Artist specializing in character direction, focusing on realistic rendering within Unreal Engine. The primary responsibilities include building and maintaining high-quality character material systems for skin, hair, and equipment, implementing dynamic material feedback for various performance needs like hit reactions and battle damage, and supporting effects for force feedback and special states. The artist will collaborate with other teams to ensure complete visual feedback and optimize material performance. Key requirements include proficiency in Unreal/Unity material systems, understanding PBR workflows, and experience with dynamic material expressions and hair systems.
Must have:
  • Build and maintain character material systems for high-quality skin, hair, and equipment.
  • Implement dynamic material feedback for performance needs (e.g., hit, battle damage, dying).
  • Support dynamic material effects for character force feedback, deformation, and special states.
  • Collaborate with modeling, rigging, animation, and VFX teams for complete visual feedback.
  • Optimize material structure and performance for efficiency and visual consistency.
  • Proficient in Unreal/Unity material systems and building complete character material systems.
  • Understand PBR workflow and adjust common character materials like skin, metal, fabric.
  • Master dynamic material expression methods (mask-driven, decal overlay, parameter animation, Shader effects).
  • Experience in implementing materials for character hit feedback, battle damage, and state performance.
  • Familiar with hair systems (Groom) material control for wind, wetness, and dyeing.
  • Capable of achieving local dynamics (muscle twitching, equipment vibration, skin bulging) via materials or WPO.
  • Possess good cross-departmental communication skills to promote overall character expression completion.

4. Experienced in implementing materials related to character hit feedback, battle damage, and state performance.

5. Familiar with hair systems (e.g., Groom) material control, supporting expressions like wind movement, wetness, and dyeing.

6. Capable of achieving local dynamics through materials or simple WPO, such as muscle twitching, equipment vibration, and skin bulging.

7. Possesses good cross-departmental communication skills and can promote the overall completion of character expression.
