Job Description

Kabam is seeking a 2D Environment Artist Contractor in Vancouver for a new game based on a major IP. This 4-month contract (30 hours/week) may be extended. Responsibilities include creating visually appealing 2D environments in Unity, assembling environments within the game engine, creating sketches and prototypes, gathering reference material, painting 2D assets (props, foliage, houses), maintaining scale consistency, creating world textures and backgrounds, optimizing assets for mobile performance, and adhering to project best practices. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of game production experience with multiple shipped titles and a strong Unity background. The role involves collaborating with concept artists and art directors to bring the game world to life.

We are seeking a 2D Environment Artist Contractor in the Vancouver area for our upcoming new game based on a major IP! You will create visually appealing and immersive virtual places that tell a story as the backdrop for our characters and gameplay, primarily assembling environments within the game engine (Unity). This will be initially for a 4 month contract at approximately 30 hours per week with possibility of extension. 

During the contract, we expect you to deliver on the following:

    • Create 3 2 D sketches and rough prototypes to explore design ideas and compositions 
    • Gather reference material for moodboards
    • Concept and paint 2D art assets as props (foliage, houses, etc…) within the world. 
    • Maintain relative scale of props to be consistent with characters and overall game scale. 
    • Put together world textures, backgrounds and props within Unity to execute the world as described by the concept artist and art director.
    • Optimize assets and environments to meet memory and performance constraints of mobile devices
    • Work within a highly customized version of Unity Steward Best Practices:
    • Follow established project best practices for asset management, version control, and naming conventions 

Your background:

    • Portfolio demonstrating excellent art skills
    • 5+ years of experience with a proven track record in game production with multiple shipped titles
    • Demonstrated experience with Unity
