What is Asobo Studio?

The answer in video from David Dedeine, co-founder and Creative Director of the studio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFjvF29zUZM

In short: Innovation x Immersion x Emotion

For over 20 years, we have been behind 25 games for PC and consoles, including famous licenses, original games, and innovative creations.

Today, we work with over 300 employees on Microsoft Flight Simulator, the A Plague Tale franchise, and HoloForge, the studio's XR department.

Our goal as a studio is to create exceptional, memorable interactive experiences for our players. Pursuing this goal is our daily source of inspiration and satisfaction. It pushes us to always do better, to progress, and to surpass ourselves: this is what guides us and gives meaning to everything we do here.

Why joining us for this position is a great opportunity?

It's an opportunity to join an experienced and passionate group, determined to deepen the furrow of narrative action/adventure third-person games.

To go even further in our next production, we are strengthening our Art pole.

Within a human-sized team, you will have the opportunity to take on responsibilities and work autonomously on several subjects at once. This includes researching relevant references and translating artistic intentions into clear and operational realizations for all teams.

Your team

Within the Art team, and under the supervision of Olivier Ponsonnet, Art Director, you will interact daily with different project teams.

Your missions

  • Create illustrations and visual concepts for environments and accessories, and occasionally for characters, in collaboration notably with Game Designers (props design) and 3D Environment Artists (level dressing, sets, props).
  • Translate the artistic director's narrative and emotional intentions into strong and evocative images.
  • Explore and propose several visual variations to define the tone, universe, and artistic direction.
  • Create moodboards and graphic research in conjunction with the game design and writing team.
  • Participate in creative reviews and adjust concepts according to feedback from the artistic director and the team.
  • Respect production constraints (deadlines, stylistic coherence, technical constraints).

The fundamentals for succeeding in this role

  • Have a first confirmed experience (ideally 4 years) in concept production for a semi-realistic and/or realistic video game.
  • Good command of drawing and digital painting (note: we mainly use Photoshop).
  • Strong visual culture and artistic sensitivity, with an aptitude for proposing concepts faithful to references.
  • Good understanding of fundamentals: anatomy, perspective, light, composition, colors.
  • Knowledge of the video game production pipeline (2D/3D collaboration).
  • Ability to integrate feedback and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Rigor, autonomy, and good time management.
  • Operational level in French (written and oral).

The little extras to be even more comfortable

  • Knowledge of 3D tools (Blender, ZBrush) to support 2D work.
  • Experience in visual research and development (exploration of silhouettes, thumbnails, roughs).
