As an Art Technical Director at Ubi MTL, you will be a high-level expert in the potential, capabilities, and limitations of our technology, while having a clear vision of the overall project. You will play a key role in providing expertise, tools, and support to guide a game – and its creators – to success. Collaborating with other directors from the early stages, you will work to define project intentions before committing resources, considering measurable factors like rendering, performance, and memory, as well as intangible factors like timing and rhythm. You will implement concrete plans to bring ambitious ideas to fruition, balancing immediate priorities with long-term objectives.
Must Have
- Define overall vision and assess technical feasibility
- Identify and analyze risks (game engine, data, features)
- Design custom solutions for artistic pipelines
- Communicate with technical artists and directors
- Solve complex problems and approve technical specifications
- Prepare project reviews for graphic data optimization

- Experience in art, technical art, or programming with strong management skills
- Proficiency in game engines (Unity, Unreal), 2D art tools (Photoshop), 3D software (3DS Max, Maya, Substance Painter), and scripting languages (C#, Python, JavaScript, MaxScript)
- Familiarity with bug tracking (Jira) and version control (Perforce)

You will play a key role in providing expertise, tools, and support to guide a game – and its creators – to success.
In collaboration with other directors from the early stages, you will work to define project intentions before committing resources. You will consider measurable factors such as rendering, performance, and memory, as well as less tangible factors such as timing and rhythm. By adopting a realistic and forward-looking approach, you will put in place concrete plans to bring ambitious ideas to fruition.
Even if each day of development brings its share of foreseen and unforeseen challenges, you will always maintain a global perspective. As a strategic thinker and tactical planner, you will balance immediate priorities with long-term objectives, always considering the future impact of your decisions.
What you will do
- Collaborate with the management team to define the overall vision and assess technical feasibility.
- Identify and analyze risks related to different aspects (game engine, data, functionalities, etc.).
- Evaluate existing tools and, if necessary, design customized solutions to support artistic pipelines while maintaining the project vision.
- Communicate with technical artists and assistant graphic technical directors to share information, enforce standards, provide references and feedback.
- Solve complex and high-priority problems, and approve technical specifications.
- Prepare project reviews, proposing improvements to optimize the creation and integration of graphic data.
- Anticipate technological evolutions and stay abreast of market trends to establish best practices and share them internally and within the industry.
- Participate in recruitment to develop your artistic technical team and enrich its expertise.
Qualifications
What you bring to the team
- Experience in art, technical art or programming, combined with strong management skills.
- Proficiency in game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal) and their constraints, 2D art tools (e.g., Photoshop), 3D software (e.g., 3DS Max, Maya, Substance Painter) and scripting languages (e.g., C#, Python, JavaScript, MaxScript).
- Familiarity with bug tracking software (e.g., Jira) and version control systems (e.g., Perforce).
