Backend Engineer, Health Intelligence

About the role

We’re looking for a backend engineer in Finland to join our Health Intelligence team. This team is at the forefront of integrating Generative AI and LLMs into the Oura experience, transforming how users interact with and learn from their data.

We are looking to grow the team by hiring an engineer to help develop our backend services and infrastructure that integrate Oura with LLMs and deliver personalized insights for our members. This team member will also work closely together with the other engineers on the team in order to push forward our holistic AI architecture.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of AI-driven health insights in a fast-evolving domain, backed by a strong consumer product and massive dataset.

Location: This is an on-site or remote (hybrid) Finland-based role with a preference for candidates who are not fully remote and near our offices in Helsinki, Tampere or Oulu.

What you will do:

• Work together with a passionate team of engineers, designers, and product managers creating stellar product experiences around AI.
• Design and build backend systems that enable personalization and integration of LLMs into the Oura user experience.
• Develop the infrastructure on top of which the backend services are built.
• Take part in the development of internal tooling that support our LLM-backed capabilities.
• Stay up to date with developments in the LLM space and experiment with new approaches.
• Drive forward our AI, personalisation and app architecture together with other engineers.
• Ensure high quality code through code reviews, automatic testing, and engineering best practices.

Requirements

We would love to have you on our team if you have:

• A minimum of 5 years of backend software development experience.
• One or more more of the following:
• Experience building products on top of LLMs.
• Experience with Python.
• Experience with AWS, including technologies such as DynamoDB, Lambda, SQS, Step Functions, EKS.
• You are able to work in a fast-changingnew domain with high uncertainty.
• Experience with collaborative development on complex shared codebases.
• A focus on quality through unit, integration and end-to-end tests and manual testing.
• You deeply care about what you build as a whole, both from an engineering and end-user perspective.
• You are enthusiastic about the burgeoning LLM domain.
• You are self-driven and like taking end-to-end ownership of what you build.

We also appreciate if you have one or more of the following:

• Ability to mentor other engineers and increase developer productivity across teams.
• Experience working asynchronously across countries and time zones.
• Experience with health, wellness, or fitness products.
• Strong systems architecture and performance optimization experience.
• Deep computer science fundamentals and design patterns knowledge.
• Contributions to open-source projects or an impressive personal portfolio.
