Springer Nature, a leading global research publisher, is seeking a Business Development Manager for Corporate Partnerships in North China. This role involves developing and growing sales revenues for Nature Partnerships services, including advertising, sponsorship, conferences, training, and custom projects. The manager will generate leads, build client relationships, manage key accounts, and develop sales strategies to achieve financial targets. The position requires frequent travel to North China and collaboration with global teams to drive business growth and innovation.

Must Have:
  • Develop and grow sales revenues to achieve financial targets across Nature Partnerships services and solutions.
  • Generate quality leads based on product and market knowledge.
  • Achieve and maintain a high level of sales cold calls, onsite client meetings, follow-up and other external sales activities including attending industry events.
  • Achieve sales targets by building productive long-term business relationships and generating new business potential (advertising, sponsorship, conference, training, data report and custom projects etc.).
  • Work directly with external corporate clients and agencies, using consultative sales skills to build and develop strong sales relationships across a range of industries with science-related companies.
  • Manage key accounts to establish close interaction between businesses and to understand their structures and strategies to strengthen relationships and increase spend.
  • Develop sales strategy and solution packages for clients in defined territory, creatively work with existing and new clients to propose new project and solution that will generate revenue.
  • Be willing to travel frequently to North China.
  • Monitor and identify policies, trends and funding opportunities that drive commercial and custom revenue business opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to create a culture of success, excellence and continuous development.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with global business development staff and any other parts of Springer Nature business development areas to realise synergies and generate sales opportunities.
  • Hold an undergraduate qualification in science, medicine and marketing (or equivalent relevant professional experience).
  • Have at least 3-5 years’ experience working in professional services, and/or science communication/publishing companies with strong experience in business development/sales in science-related industry.
  • Have experience of consultative selling and corporate key account management.
  • Demonstrate proven capability of solution selling and achieving sales target.

Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

  • An undergraduate qualification in science, medicine and marketing (or equivalent relevant professional experience)

Skills/knowledge:

  • Strong commercial drive alongside proven experience in leads generation and maximising revenue potential and business development
  • Positive ability to develop long-term professional network among research-based industries and relationships with R&D-based companies
  • Ability to develop needs and value-based proposals of products and solutions for clients
  • Understanding of the scientific research community and its needs and aspirations
  • Strong interpersonal and influential communication skills, with effective negotiation and presentation skills as is attention to the detail of implementation.
  • Highly self-motivated, resourceful and achievement oriented
  • A creative approach to problem-solving
  • Active, supportive team player
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Familiar with office system/software such as salesforce etc.

Experience:

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, constructive team player who has demonstrated the ability to work successfully within a complex organization. He/she should have a proven track record with experience in developing new deals for advertising and/or sponsorship sales, selling to senior level executives at key companies.

  • At least 3-5 years’ experience working in professional services, and/or science communication/publishing companies with strong experience in business development/sales in science-related industry.
