Job Description

Morningstar’s Finance Data & Analytics Office team seeks a Finance Business Intelligence Analyst to support BI & Financial Reporting functions. This role involves collaborating with global finance stakeholders, understanding reporting requirements, supporting existing dashboards, assisting with data validation, and building foundational dashboards. The analyst will also perform ad hoc data analysis and contribute to automation and analytics initiatives within the finance organization.

Must Have:
  • Execute tasks within monthly close, quarterly update & maintenance processes for Finance BI Function.
  • Maintain data cleanliness program, related reporting & follow ups with internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with training & onboarding new users for existing Tableau Dashboards and related processes.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Lead small business intelligence projects as requested by internal clients.
  • Evaluate current BI & Reporting processes and propose methods for improvement.
  • Design and maintain Tableau datasets, workspaces and reporting structures.
  • Interpret and analyze data from multiple sources, spot trends/anomalies/outliers, synthesize raw data and create models.
  • Provide design support for development of business intelligence solutions, build an in-depth understanding of the business.
  • Interpret business requirements and determine optimum BI solutions to meet business needs.
  • Train users and executives to use reports, metrics, and action-oriented information correctly.
  • Bachelor’s degree from STEM fields such as Computer Science, Engineering, IT, Analytics, Finance.
  • Working knowledge or experience with Tableau Desktop or similar reporting tool.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Process focused and adhered to achieve SLA in day to day activities.
  • Excellent communication skills and English proficiency, both written and verbal.

The Team: Morningstar’s Finance team is responsible for planning, forecasting, and analyzing the company’s financial results. The team works collaboratively with our business groups to support our strategy and growth initiatives and helps make informed business decisions to create value.

The Role: Morningstar’s Finance Data & Analytics Office team seeks a Finance Business Intelligence Analyst to support the growing Business Intelligence (BI) & Financial Reporting functions within our Finance Organization. The function is focused on harnessing data and automation tools to reduce or eliminate manual processes, drive global standardization in processes impacting financial reporting and building and maintaining tools which will be leveraged by both Global Finance and our business partners for internal reporting.

In this role, you will collaborate with global finance stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and support existing dashboards and reports. You will assist with data validation, issue identification, and resolution related to recurring financial reporting processes. Additionally, you will help build foundational dashboards and reporting assets using established templates and tools. You’ll also perform ad hoc data analysis and support the creation of documentation, training, and user guides. Working under the guidance of senior analyst & Finance Business Intelligence Manager, you will contribute to broader automation and analytics initiatives within the finance organization.

This position reports to the Manager of Finance Business Intelligence.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide design support for development of business intelligence solutions, build an in-depth understanding of the business, and serve as the primary owner of new report requests.
  • Interpret business requirements and determine optimum BI solutions to meet business needs.
  • Trains users and executives to use reports, metrics, and action-oriented information correctly.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work with a range of data and reporting technologies to build upon a strong foundation of rigor, quantitative techniques, and efficient processing.
  • Strong technical background is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree from STEM fields such as Computer Science, Engineering, IT, Analytics, Finance etc. Specialized training/certification and master’s degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge or experience with Tableau Desktop or similar reporting tool
  • Excellent analytical thinking and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex data issues correctly and clearly to both internal and external customers.
  • Attention to detail. Ability to define and organize tasks, responsibilities & priorities.
  • Process focused and adhered to achieve SLA in best manner in day to day activities.
