Job Summary

Apple designs consumer electronics with cameras and optical technologies requiring calibration and testing. The HWTE group develops technologies, calibration methodologies, and hardware for testing every Apple product before factory release. This manager role leads a team designing proof-of-concept metrology and validating them for camera calibration, collaborating with Camera Design groups to ensure product success.

Must Have

  • Responsible for the specification, design, development, validation and optimization of test systems and algorithms for camera calibration prior to Apple’s new product introduction (NPI)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define test coverage, analyze data, and drive failure mode root cause analysis
  • Model and simulate instrumentation errors, and ensure measurement uncertainty meets product requirements
  • Balance engineering requirements with manufacturing efficiency, defining quality controls processes
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, strategy to enhance team capabilities/deliveries

Good to Have

  • MS in EE/CE/Physics/Optics
  • Experience in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to grow a successful team and build strong cross-functional relationships
  • System engineering approach to quickly familiarize yourself with complex processes (example factory infrastructure, mechanical design, algorithms and SW deployment)
  • Effective in breaking down and prioritizing between many complex tasks
  • Experience with driving AI/ML projects
  • Experience with fabrication and assembly of camera and optical sensors
  • Experience with computer vision algorithms
  • Programming experience in C, C++ or Objective C

Job Description

Apple designs consumer electronics that have touched millions and changed the way people interact with electronic devices around the world. These products have cameras and other optical technologies that need calibration and testing to ensure the customer experience we want to deliver.

The HWTE group is responsible for developing technologies, calibration methodologies, and HW for the calibration and testing of every single Apple product before it leaves the factory. These solutions will be developed during New Product Introduction (NPI) before they are scaled by the operations team.

The role of this Camera Calibration and Test Engineering Manager is to lead and grow a team that designs proof of concept metrology and validates them for the calibration/testing of our camera technologies. You will work closely with Camera Design groups within Apple to ensure the success of the current and future Apple products.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for the specification, design, development, validation and optimization of test systems and algorithms for camera calibration prior to Apple’s new product introduction (NPI)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define test coverage, analyze data, and drive failure mode root cause analysis
  • Model and simulate instrumentation errors, and ensure measurement uncertainty meets product requirements.

Key Qualifications

  • BS in EE/CE/Physics/Optics
  • In-depth knowledge of camera/optical system working principles
  • Expertise in camera and optical sensor calibration techniques and metrology
  • 3+ years of experience in managing people OR leading cross-functional projects
  • Programming experience in Python or Matlab for analyzing data
  • Strong communication skills with ability to deliver technical and executive-level presentations
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 10% if the time

Compensation and Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $228,100 and $342,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
