Job Summary

As a CG Supervisor, you will collaborate with VFX Supervisors to define the film's visual style and ensure consistency across CG work. You will provide clear direction to CG departments, setting objectives, monitoring progress, and conducting quality control reviews before client approval. Responsibilities also include evaluating creative requirements, determining technical implications, making high-level operational decisions, and assisting in casting 3D artists. You will maintain efficient technical approaches, workflows, and proactively address pipeline issues to ensure high-quality visual effects.

The Role

As a CG Supervisor you will be working with the VFX Supervisor in other sites to explore and create the look of a film to a client's requirements and specifications, as well as with CG supervisors in other locations to ensure consistency of approach to CG work. You’ll provide clear direction to all CG departments, setting clear objectives and monitoring the process, progress, results and also conduct reviews as final quality control on all deliveries of shots prior to VFX Supervisor and client review. You’ll work with Heads of CG to create clear briefs for developers on R&D and pipeline requirements.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate the creative requirements of a project, determine the technical implications and make high-level operational decisions (e.g. the balance between third party tools versus proprietary development and the selection of specific technical methodologies).
  • You’ll work closely with Producers, artists and other necessary departments in creating high quality visual effects and assist in the casting of 3D artists to ensure the right fit, skills and experience required for projects and teams.
  • Determine, modify and maintain the most effective and efficient technical approach and workflow possible as well as eliminate potential problems in pipeline tools before they impact on production.

Job requirements

  • Extensive production experience in a similar or relevant position.
  • A thorough understanding of the entire visual effects process and the ability to interpret the artistic brief from the VFX Supervisor.
  • Ability to review other artists' work and ensure a high standard both artistically and technically.
  • Good technical understanding of CG pipelines and the ability to specify efficient workflows, identify additional tools, as well as working knowledge of the latest CG procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience of all areas of 3D (modeling, rigging, texturing, look development, environments, creature FX, lighting and FX).
  • An excellent understanding of photography and film with strong artistic skills including knowledge of color, lighting, perspective, scale and composition.
  • An understanding of the 2D pipeline.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and project management skills and experience working within production leadership teams and meeting schedule and budget requirements.
