Job Description

The Toulouse site is responsible for satellite systems engineering, payload design and manufacturing, and ground segment development and qualification. Thales Alenia Space plays a major industrial role in the IRIS² project as a Core Team Member of the SpaceRISE consortium. The Chief Engineer ensures the relevance, feasibility, and compliance of the solution, acting as the technical authority and interface, leading technical developments, defining architectures, and managing technical risks.
Must Have:
  • Engineering or University degree (Bac+5 equivalent)
  • Experience in program management or technical product management
  • Proficiency in needs analysis
  • Involvement in architecture, specifications, or development
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering standards
  • Expertise in space systems technologies, especially Telecom (network, physical layer, system…)
  • Solid experience in telecommunication systems analysis
  • Ability to negotiate with clients on Change Notices, performance non-conformities, or technical derogations
  • Understanding and mastery of financial, programmatic, and technical project challenges
  • Leadership (human or strategic)
  • Ability to coach or develop others
  • Committed, with a strong sense of responsibility and cost/deadline orientation
  • Capable of deciding in complex contexts, involving multiple stakeholders, including top management
  • Acts with agility, adapting solutions in a changing environment, and is customer-oriented (internal and external)
  • Fluent in English

The Toulouse site is responsible for satellite systems engineering, payload design and manufacturing, as well as the development and qualification of ground segments. It includes a research center and an industrial accelerator for start-ups and ventures.

Thales Alenia Space plays a major industrial role in the IRIS² project by contributing to the technical design, manufacturing of payloads, and program governance, as a Core Team Member of the SpaceRISE consortium.

YOUR DAILY LIFE

Within the Telecom activities, the role of Chief Engineer is to guarantee the relevance, feasibility, and compliance of the solution:

  • Is the technical authority of the program
  • Is the overall technical interface internally and with the client
  • Ensures coherent management of the technical developments of the IRIS² program. To do this, they must animate, synchronize, and federate the network of PDAs deployed on projects at various levels of the project organization to consolidate the technical coherence of the different deliverables and coherently lead the necessary technical arbitrations.
  • Defines and validates system architectures, ensures the implementation of technical requirements, the application of applicable documents and project standards within TAS and with suppliers and interfaces, the relevance of engineering and analysis tools implemented for technical analyses, key technological choices, the establishment of effective development processes, and coordination between different products to ensure that delivered products meet customer needs.
  • Organizes peer technical reviews as needed and must alert to technological risks and propose mitigation actions.
  • Is the main interface with the client to clarify/negotiate the technical scope to reduce technical risks and costs in coherence with project deadlines.
  • Works with the EDM to plan all technical reviews and take into account risk-related actions in the delivery program.
  • Is assisted by a deputy more specifically in charge of the technical management of onboard and ground software solutions and products.
  • Verifies that architectural choices have received the approval of IVVQM and IA.
  • Identifies, with the EDM and IVVQM, the risks/opportunities associated with the solution.
  • Prepares DVAs and submits them for approval to the DA (Design Authority).

YOUR PROFILE

Are you from an Engineering or University background (Bac+5 equivalent) and have you already managed activities in program management or technical product management?

Do you master needs analysis and intervene in architecture, specifications or development?

Do you possess in-depth knowledge of engineering standards?

Do you have expertise in space systems technologies, particularly in the Telecom domain (network, physical layer, system…)?

Do you have solid experience in telecommunication systems analysis?

Do you know how to negotiate with clients on Change Notices, performance non-conformities or technical derogations?

Do you understand and master the financial, programmatic and technical challenges of a project?

Do you demonstrate leadership (human or strategic) and know how to coach or develop others?

Are you committed, with a strong sense of responsibility and a cost / deadline orientation?

Are you capable of deciding in complex contexts, involving multiple stakeholders, including top management?

Do you act with agility, adapting solutions in a changing environment, and are you customer-oriented (internal and external)?

Do you speak English?
