Onward Search is a specialized staffing and talent solutions company that helps professionals find top jobs with the nation’s leading brands. We’re hiring a Cloud Engineer for a hybrid, long-term contract opportunity.
In this role, you'll design, deploy, and manage scalable data infrastructure using GCP, with a focus on Cloud Composer (Airflow) and GKE. This is a hands-on engineering position that will also require container management, CI/CD automation, observability implementation, and close collaboration with data engineering teams to modernize workloads.
This is a hybrid onsite role requiring attendance in the office Tuesday through Thursday, with remote work allowed on Monday and Friday.
Cloud Engineer Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and manage scalable data infrastructure in GCP, focusing on Cloud Composer (Airflow) and GKE.
- Manage containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes, including lifecycle, networking, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with data engineering to migrate workloads to containerized platforms.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Git, and Terraform.
- Implement observability and reliability practices with Prometheus, Grafana, and related tools.
- Apply container security best practices including vulnerability scanning and secure configuration.
- Support open-source and Google-native tools such as CloudSQL, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, and Artifact Registry.
- Handle daily platform operations and support.
Cloud Engineer Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience with container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, GKE, AKS, EKS).
- 5+ years of hands-on GCP experience including IAM, networking, and resource management.
- 5+ years deploying and operating Docker containers in production environments.
- Experience with Helm, Terraform, Jenkins, and Composer (Airflow) (preferred).
- Knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases and experience migrating legacy applications to containers (preferred).
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals and large-scale data tools (preferred).
- Proficiency in Python (5+ years), Bash, Linux systems, and scripting (preferred).
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting containerized systems (preferred).
