Job Summary

The Compositing Supervisor oversees the compositing team at the Studio and the projects they are assigned to, making sure all deliveries meet technical and creative standards. The role involves guiding the team through creative and technical challenges, working closely with other departments, and collaborating with teams from other studios in the group, while keeping compositing workflows efficient and consistent.

Must Have

  • Collaborate with Production and other creative teams to achieve project goals.
  • Ensure that all deliveries meet technical and creative standards, with consistency across shots.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating compositing deliveries for assigned projects.
  • Manage and support the compositing team at the Studio.
  • Monitor team progress and help diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and work with the team to find solutions.
  • Perform on-the-box compositing for complex shots.
  • Apply and share core 2D image manipulation skills for photorealistic results.
  • Develop production approaches and workflows to anticipate and resolve problems.
  • 7+ years of live-action feature film or episodic compositing experience, including at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Expert-level Nuke skills and strong knowledge of compositing workflows.
  • Solid understanding of 3D computer graphics.
  • Strong understanding of on-set techniques, film cameras, lenses, camera rigs, cinematographic language and visual storytelling.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate positively and communicate effectively.
  • Experience with Shotgrid, Flow, or other VFX production tracking software.
  • Candidates must reside in Ontario and be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Good to Have

  • Experience creating written or video training materials and the will to share knowledge is appreciated.
  • Appreciation of traditional art, photography, or film is a plus.
  • Experience with Python and Nuke particles and advanced Comp techniques is a plus.

The role involves guiding the team through creative and technical challenges, working closely with other departments, and collaborating with teams from other studios in the group, while keeping compositing workflows efficient and consistent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Production and other creative teams to achieve project goals.
  • Ensure that all deliveries meet technical and creative standards, with consistency across shots.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating compositing deliveries for assigned projects.
  • Manage and support the compositing team at the Studio.
  • Monitor team progress and help diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and work with the team to find solutions.
  • Perform on-the-box compositing for complex shots, including live-action sourced and full CG shots.
  • Apply and share core 2D image manipulation skills, such as tracking, color correction, depth of field, retiming, warping, and photographic optical effects, to achieve photorealistic results.
  • Develop production approaches and workflows to anticipate and resolve problems.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of live-action feature film or episodic compositing experience, including at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Expert-level Nuke skills and strong knowledge of compositing workflows.
  • Solid understanding of 3D computer graphics, including modeling, lighting, animation, real-time rendering, and AI-assisted tools.
  • Strong understanding of on-set techniques, film cameras, lenses, camera rigs, and cinematographic language and visual storytelling.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate positively and share and communicate effectively with team members in the creative and production side and other departments.
  • Experience with Shotgrid, Flow, or other VFX production tracking software.
  • Experience creating written or video training materials and the will to share knowledge is appreciated.
