Job Summary
Mavericks VFX is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their Finance team in a hybrid role based in Ontario/Quebec. This position involves substantial exposure to monthly closing processes, forecasting, budgeting, and customer billing. The role combines client/commercial finance and corporate finance, requiring excellent interpersonal skills, a collaborative approach, and a strong sense of ownership in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
Must Have
- Oversee and ensure accurate recording of AP, AR, and Payroll
- Support lease accounting under IFRS 16
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain schedules
- Prepare periodic financial statements with variance analysis
- Assist with cash forecasting, reporting, and monitoring studio cash flow
- Prepare and reconcile GST/HST/QST returns
- Assist with year-end working papers, statutory filings, and external audit requirements
- Ensure compliance with Canadian GAAP/US GAAP and internal financial standards
- Maintain strong internal controls and help improve policy documentation
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting, financial statement preparation, and internal controls
- Advanced Excel and strong experience with modern ERP systems
- Excellent communication skills
- Familiarity with Canadian tax structure (GST/HST/QST) and IFRS requirements
Good to Have
- CPA designation (or progress toward CPA)
- Experience in entertainment, digital production, technology, or similar fast-paced environments
- Experience with NetSuite ERP system
- Ability to provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff

Mavericks VFX is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The ideal candidate will have substantial exposure to monthly closing processes, forecasting and budgeting, and customer billing. This position will be a hybrid client/commercial finance and corporate finance role. The position requires that you have excellent interpersonal skills and are a collaborative individual who likes to put forward suggestions and ideas on how to improve the status quo. This individual will have a strong sense of ownership and accountability and a passion for working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee and ensure accurate recording of AP (GL coded for different types of purchases, equipment leases, vendor management, overhead expenses, etc.); AR (invoicing, aging reviews, collection co-ordination and follow ups); Payroll processed and cost allocations
- Support lease accounting under IFRS 16 (equipment, office space, servers, etc.). Coordinate annual fixed asset review and support capex planning.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain schedules across key accounts (cash, AR, AP, Inter company reconciliations, prepaid expenses, payroll liabilities, fixed assets, leases, deferred revenue).
- Prepare periodic financial statements along with supporting schedules, variance analysis and reasoning for same
- Assist with cash forecasting, reporting and monitoring studio cash flow trends.
- Prepare and reconcile GST/HST/QST returns.
- Assist with year-end working papers, statutory filings, and external audit requirements while ensuring compliance with Canadian GAAP/ US GAAP and internal financial standards.
- Maintain strong internal controls and help improve policy documentation.
Qualifications and Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA designation (or progress toward CPA) is an asset.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in entertainment, digital production, technology, or similar fast-paced environments.
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting, financial statement preparation, and internal controls.
- Advanced Excel and strong experience with modern ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with non-finance teams.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Familiarity with Canadian tax structure (GST/HST/QST) and IFRS requirements.
