Job Summary
As a Data Scientist in the Trust team at eBay, you will work directly with the Trust business unit to identify opportunities, assess impacts, and integrate insights into operational strategies. Your role involves using predictive analytics to guide marketplace decisions, ensuring solutions align with organizational goals. You will also develop infrastructure and operational strategy for measurable impact and scalability across Trust organization's focus areas, improving customer experience and trust for buyers and sellers.

As a Data Scientist in the Trust team at eBay, you will work directly with the Trust business unit (and partner teams - Product, Engineering, Design) to identify opportunities, assess impacts, and integrate insights into operational strategies. Your role will involve using predictive analytics to guide marketplace decisions, ensuring that solutions align with organizational goals while adapting to changing market and economic conditions. Additionally, you will develop the overall infrastructure and operational strategy to achieve measurable impact and scalability across the Trust organization's focus areas.
Responsibilities:
- Drive Strategic Insights: Apply strategic, operational, and analytics processes to secure agreement for long-term solutions, influencing leaders across the Trust organization and fostering a culture of achieving goals.
- Analyze & Identify Opportunities: Conduct analysis of key issues to identify significant opportunities for improving customer experience and trust for buyers and sellers on the platform.
- Define & Monitor Metrics: Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track the trust experience of users on the platform. Monitor these metrics to understand the underlying causes of metric movements.
- Accountability & Results: Define business objectives and measure progress in achieving results. Commit to goals and lead complex projects focused on enhancing customer experience, and delivering top- and bottom-line results for eBay.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with leaders in Trust, Product Management, Engineering, and Design to integrate insights into operational strategies.
To be successful in this role:
- Educational Background & Experience: BA/BS degree with 5+ years (or Masters/PhD with 3+ years) of relevant experience across at least two areas like Quantitative Research, Analytics, or Data Science.
- Data Analysis Expertise: Skilled in recognizing trends and implications within data to support informed decision-making.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming (Python/R) and data querying (SQL).
- Problem-Solving: Strong creativity in solving problems.
- Execution & Results: Proven ability to deliver results in challenging situations.
- Customer Advocacy: Experience in acting as the voice of the customer, synthesizing diverse views to achieve alignment.
- Communication with Leaders: Ability to convey insights drawn from data to senior-level executives.
- Availability: Flexible and capable of working remotely across multiple time zones. Regular availability is required for meetings between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM (PDT).
