The E.W Scripps company is hiring a Director, Network Engineering. This individual will lead and manage a team of network staff responsible for the analysis, design, development, and implementation of network system projects. Accountable for the development or enhancement of engineering strategies and leads efforts for process improvements, standardization efforts, technology deployments, customer support, strategic and tactical implementations. This role involves directing network engineering activities in a 24/7 broadcast environment, managing installations, troubleshooting, and upgrades of network systems, and making decisions on complex networking issues.
Must have:
  • Lead and manage a team of network staff
  • Responsible for analysis, design, development, and implementation of network system projects
  • Accountable for development or enhancement of engineering strategies
  • Lead efforts for process improvements, standardization, technology deployments, customer support, strategic and tactical implementations
  • Direct network engineering activities in support of a 24/7 broadcast environment
  • Responsible for installation, troubleshooting and upgrades of all switch/firewall and wireless systems
  • Lead network design, plan projects, establish priorities, and monitor progress
  • Make decisions on complex networking issues
  • Evaluate and validate escalated problems, drive resolution and root cause analysis
  • Establish process and procedures for incident management, problem management and capacity planning
  • Assess project status and resource utilization; evaluate changes to improve team effectiveness
  • Develop, implement, and manage appropriate metrics and reporting processes
  • Implement modifications and configurations that will reduce cost and provide improved service
  • Perform vendor and/or network system and application selections
  • Negotiate existing and new carrier and vendor agreements
  • Develop overall engineering policies and procedures
  • Provide 24/7 support in an on-call rotation
  • Deep level of expertise in network engineering and architecture
  • Proficiency with Cisco routers/switches and Juniper routers
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and Payment Card Industry (PCI) regulated technology environments
  • Proficient in network design and integration with a solid IS security architectural background on multiple platforms
  • Expert understanding of commonly used routing protocols and operating systems; BGP and EIGRP, access-lists, JunOS, IOS firewall, PIX firewalls, IPSec, ATM, Frame-relay, and QoS
  • Demonstrated success in providing best practice engineering process, support, implementation, and network DR planning/execution
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management
  • Adept at numerical and network analysis with proven ability to identify trends in usage and network problems
  • Ability to actively manage staff member development, maintain appropriate training and performance metrics
Good to have:
  • BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience
  • Prior managerial experience
  • Knowledge of reporting and metrics
  • General knowledge of applications management processes and methodologies

Job Details

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Direct network engineering activities in support of a 24 by 7 broadcast environment.
  • Responsible for the installation, troubleshooting and upgrades of all switch/firewall and wireless systems.
  • Leads network design, plans projects, establishes priorities, and monitors progress.
  • Makes decisions on complex networking issues.
  • Evaluate and validate escalated problems, drive resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Establish process and procedures for incident management, problem management and capacity planning.
  • Assess project status and resource utilization; evaluate changes to improve team effectiveness.
  • Develop, implement, and manage appropriate metrics and reporting processes as required.
  • Implement modifications and configurations that will reduce cost and provide improved service.
  • Perform vendor and/or network system and application selections.
  • Negotiate existing and new carrier and vendor agreements.
  • Develop overall engineering policies and procedures in compliance with the organizations guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide 24/7 support in an on-call rotation.
  • Perform other duties as needed, and as directed by supervisor.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • BS/BA in related discipline preferred or equivalent years of experience
  • Generally, 10+ years of experience in related field preferred
  • Prior managerial experience preferred
