WTMJ, the E.W. Scripps NBC Station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is seeking a Multimedia Journalist to be based in Walworth County. This role involves telling stories from the Walworth County area, known for Lake Geneva, tourism, manufacturing, and agriculture. The MMJ will develop story ideas, gather and verify information, write stories, shoot and edit video and photos for all platforms, and appear on air. Must Have

  • Develop story ideas from assignments, news leads, and tips
  • Gather and verify factual information through interviews, observation, and research
  • Organize material and write stories to editorial standards
  • Shoot video and still photos for stories
  • Edit videos for all multimedia platforms
  • Appear on air in pre-recorded and live situations
  • Work cooperatively with assigned photographers
  • Assist news producer in newscast preparation
  • Assist online staff with multimedia stories
  • Computer literacy
  • Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment
  • Ability to edit video on Final Cut Pro or similar systems
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
  • Proficiency in posting content to various websites
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and proof of insurance

  • BS/BA in a related discipline or equivalent years of experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a related field
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience

Job Description

WTMJ, the E.W. Scripps NBC Station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is searching for a Multimedia Journalist to join our team. The MMJ will be based in Walworth County and will tell the stories of that area. Walworth County sits in southeastern Wisconsin on the Illinois border and is best known for Lake Geneva and several other recreational lakes. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Receive assignments or evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.
  • Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interviews, observation, and research.
  • Organize material, determine slant or emphasis, and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
  • Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories.
  • Edit, or assists in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.
  • Appear on air in pre-recorded and live situations.
  • Work cooperatively with photographers assigned to stories, if one is assigned.
  • Assist the news producer in preparing newscast.
  • Assist online staff in preparing for multimedia stories.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • BS/BA in a related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
  • Generally, 3+ years of experience in related field preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred
  • Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment
  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company's required insurance limits
