Job Description
Overall Role Summary
This role is responsible for supporting peer-reviewed, scholarly research journals that have been selected for strategic growth and development, with a focus on:
- Supporting the publication of high-quality content that advances evidence-based knowledge and contributes to the achievement of Taylor & Francis growth and development targets
- Identifying improvements to the author publication experience and implementing solutions that drive author retention and provide a high level of customer service
- Building collaborative relationships with both internal and external journal stakeholders, such as authors, societies, and colleagues, to engage in shared goals of publishing excellence and open research
- Evaluating publishing workflows and processes to ensure they are contributing to timely publication, ethical and quality content, and author satisfaction
- Incorporating innovative technologies to facilitate efficiency in everyday work, enhance communication, and identify applications that contribute to journal growth and development.
Associate Executive Editors should be familiar with scholarly publishing and understand its role in the geographic region in which they work. Expertise in research areas, such as medicine, science and technology, or social sciences is welcomed.
Key Responsibilities
The Associate Executive Editor works collaboratively with the Executive Editor Team and other teams across Taylor & Francis to manage and develop journals selected for strategic support. The role encompasses a range of editorial responsibilities, which are applied on an “as needed” basis to achieve each journal’s identified objectives and performance targets. An Associate Executive Editor has the experience and expertise to:
- Contribute to the growth of high-quality submissions in partnership with journal editors and internal Taylor & Francis teams.
- Evaluate journal copy flow and content quality with a focus on improving content assessment and publication workflows, from pre-submission to post-acceptance.
- Work with journal academic editors to ensure timely processing of manuscripts and consistency in decision making.
- Collaborate with editorial and production teams to assess and improve workflows that achieve publication timelines, support publication of high-quality content, and meet author expectations.
- Liaise with the publishing ethics and integrity team to resolve ethics queries and cases and improve identification of unsound and unethical manuscripts.
- Assess article transfer pathways to increase the opportunities for authors to publish in Taylor & Francis journals.
- Become familiar with different content types and services and understand how they meet customer needs, increase accessibility of content, and integrate innovative media and platforms.
- Use publication reports and journal metrics to understand journal performance and inform journal growth and development.
- Recommend strategies for editorial board recruitment that result in engaged editorial boards that provide support in journal development and editorial decision making.
- Build relationships with societies and professional organizations through conference attendance, society membership, and other outreach activities.
- Assist marketing team in development of strategies that drive submission growth and services uptake using knowledge of geographic region and subject area publication landscapes.
- Follow scholarly publishing news and trends and understand their impact on research output and publication stakeholders.
- Maintain a social media presence that builds, and interacts with, a professional network of publication professionals.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Qualifications
- Academic publishing experience, including a basic understanding of the publishing process, including manuscript assessment and peer review
- A basic understanding of best practices in publication ethics and integrity
- Familiarity with research study design and methods, as well as research institutions and communities.
- Interest and experience in collaborating with, and building relationships with, publication stakeholders, such as authors, editors, and publication professionals

Additional Information
You must have the right to work and live in India.
Location: The successful candidate will be able to utilise our balanced working model. We ask that candidates live within a commutable distance of our Bengaluru office to ensure that as a balanced worker they can make it to our office location to collaborate as required. There is an expectation for a minimum of 3 days per week in-person time.
