Job Summary

Omdia, a division of Informa TechTarget, is seeking a Chief Analyst for its Optical Components research practice within the Telecoms division. This role involves providing world-class market intelligence and strategic insights to global clients. The Chief Analyst will drive thought leadership, conduct in-depth market analysis including sizing and pricing, identify disruptive technologies and competitive strategies, lead consulting engagements, represent Omdia at industry events, and offer expert guidance to clients. The position requires deep industry expertise and strong analytical and communication skills.

Must Have

  • Establish and drive thought leadership on optical technology markets.
  • Conduct in-depth market sizing, pricing analysis, and revenue quantification.
  • Identify disruptive technologies, emerging market threats, and competitive strategies.
  • Lead tailored consulting engagements for clients.
  • Represent Omdia at industry conferences and support business development.
  • Provide expert insights via "Ask An Analyst" support.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in optical components field.
  • Strong understanding of fiber optics, lasers, transceivers, silicon photonics, AR/VR optics.
  • Proven experience in market sizing, forecasting, competitive analysis, primary and secondary research.
  • Expertise in tracking vendor strategies, pricing dynamics, and market trends.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Tableau, and Power BI.
  • Strong ability to forecast technology adoption and develop market strategies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications and data center end markets.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (ITU, IEEE, IEC) and associations.
  • Ability to work across international markets and time zones.
  • Advanced degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.

Omdia, a division of Informa TechTarget, is hiring for a Chief Analyst to lead our Optical Components research practice within our Telecoms division, providing world-class market intelligence and strategic insights to clients worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and drive thought leadership to solidify Omdia’s position as the definitive authority on optical technology markets.
  • Conduct in-depth market sizing, pricing analysis, and revenue quantification across various optical platforms.
  • Identify disruptive technologies, emerging market threats, and competitive strategies that shape the future of the optical components industry.
  • Lead tailored consulting engagements to help clients’ competitive positioning, evaluate go-to-market strategies, and thought leadership content initiatives.
  • Represent Omdia at industry conferences, delivering impactful presentations and supporting business development efforts.
  • Provide expert insights and guidance through the "Ask An Analyst" support service, ensuring clients receive timely and actionable advice.

Qualifications

An ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:

  • Domain Knowledge: Minimum of 10 years of experience in the optical components field, with a strong understanding of technologies such as fiber optics, lasers, transceivers, and emerging innovations like silicon photonics and AR/VR optics.
  • Market Research Expertise: Proven experience in market sizing, forecasting, competitive analysis, and conducting primary and secondary research.
  • Competitive Intelligence: Expertise in tracking vendor strategies, pricing dynamics, and identifying market trends and disruption opportunities.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in Excel and other data visualization platforms like Tableau and Power BI.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong ability to forecast technology adoption, assess risks, and develop long-term market strategies aligned with business goals.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to business audiences and deliver insights to C-suite executives.
  • Sector Knowledge: Familiarity with key end markets including telecommunications and data center, as well as knowledge of industry standards (ITU, IEEE, IEC) and industry associations (Optica, SPIE, IEEE Photonics Society).
  • Global Perspective: Proven ability to work across international markets and time zones, with an understanding of global market dynamics and cultural considerations.
  • Educational Background: Advanced degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field; MBA with a technical undergraduate background is preferred.
  • Travel Flexibility: Willingness to travel domestically and internationally several times per year for industry conferences, client meetings, and consulting engagements.
