This highly visible Director, Segment Controller role in Corporate Finance leads the Toys, Games, Licensing, and Entertainment Segment Accounting team. Responsibilities include overseeing global accounting activities, communicating financial results, and driving continuous improvement. Must have:
  • Lead day-to-day accounting of revenue and other activities globally
  • Own and communicate segment financial results, including balance sheet analysis
  • Support Finance on P&L analysis
  • Serve as accounting liaison for Business/Commercial Finance
  • Act as primary point of contact for segment business-related communications with Technical Accounting team
  • Drive continuous improvement and modernization efforts in global accounting and finance
  • Ensure complete and accurate segment financial results
  • Provide support and analysis to executive management
  • Investigate accounting questions, issues, and judgments
  • Partner with team members from other business divisions for accounting assistance
  • Act as key liaison to external auditors for efficient audit completion
  • Oversee timely completion of local statutory financial statements
  • Build relationships and communicate with operational leaders
  • Provide direct and timely assistance on accounting and reporting implications
  • Complete ad hoc projects assigned by senior management
  • Analyze business operations, proposed accounting treatment, or other accounting/finance matters
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in accounting and finance roles
  • Minimum 5 years of public accounting and/or public company experience
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

Would you like to use your finance experience in a highly visible role to make a difference? We are looking for a Segment Controller to join our Corporate Finance team! In this role, you will be responsible for leading the Toys, Games, Licensing, and Entertainment Segment Accounting team, assessing technical accounting impacts, identifying efficient accounting and business processes, and overseeing continuous improvement. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Segment Controller is a highly visible role, supporting accounting, finance and business. Success in this role requires being driven and innovative, with a strong work ethic and a leadership style characterized by a straightforward style, approachability, a team orientation, and collaboration!

This is a hybrid role and requires the ability to work onsite in our Pawtucket, RI office 3 days per week.

A day in the life of the Segment Controller:

  • Lead the day-to-day accounting of certain revenue and other accounting activities globally across Hasbro.
  • Own and communicate the segment financial results including balance sheet analysis and supporting Finance on the P&L analysis.
  • Serve as the accounting liaison for the Business/Commercial Finance, and act as the primary point of contact for segment business-related communications with the Technical Accounting team.
  • Drive continuous improvement and modernization efforts across the global accounting and finance organization to ensure complete and accurate segment financial results.
  • Provide overall support and analysis to executive management by investigating accounting questions, issues, and judgments and by partnering with team members from other business divisions to assist with accounting questions.
  • Act as a key liaison to the external auditors to assist in their completion of an efficient audit.
  • Oversee the timely completion of local statutory financial statements.
  • Build relationships and regular communication with operational leaders to provide direct and timely assistance on matters that have accounting and reporting implications.
  • Complete ad hoc projects assigned by senior management, including analysis of business operations, proposed accounting treatment, or other accounting and finance-related matters.

What you’ll bring:

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in accounting and finance roles of increasing responsibility.
  • Minimum 5 years of public accounting experience and/or public company experience. Big 4 experience preferred.
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, a Certified Public Accountant designation is preferred.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and meet deadlines.
  • Reviews performance and progress on a regular basis to ensure the team is achieving results.
  • Demonstrated success in the development of staff and others toward improved skills, independence, and self-initiative.
  • Ability to earn trust and credibility within the organization, and capable of developing effective business relationships with all members of the company’s senior leadership team.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to make sound business decisions.
