Role Summary
The Engineering Team Manager will lead the Audio and Tuner software development team responsible for end-to-end software design, integration, and delivery of automotive infotainment audio features and tuner systems on Android-based platforms powered by Qualcomm host processors (SA8255, SA8155, SA8295).This role demands strong technical leadership, DSP and tuner system knowledge, and delivery management expertise to ensure high-quality production software meeting OEM standards for performance, functionality, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Lead development of audio features, audio source management and audio post-processing features such as Tone Control, Balance/Fader, Parametric EQ, Loudness, Volume, Limiter, SDVC, and DRC.
- Oversee tuner system development, including AM/FM, DAB, and DRM functionalities (station scanning, service following, blending, and RDS).
- Manage audio and tuner signal chain integration within Android Audio Framework on Qualcomm SoCs (SA8255 / SA8155 / SA8295).
- Drive DSP algorithm implementation and optimization on Hexagon QDSP6/ HiFi DSP cores.
- Collaborate with system and hardware teams for audio routing, amplifier interfacing, and AFE configurations.
- Ensure performance optimization (MIPS, memory, latency) and real-time validation across all modules.
System Integration & Architecture
- Own the integration of Audio HAL, AFE, ACDB, and AudioReach frameworks.
- Define and maintain the audio and tuner signal routing architecture across Android layers and DSP.
- Coordinate with platform vendors and internal teams for feature integration and BSP alignment.
- Support voice assistant, media, and navigation audio coexistence within the infotainment system.
Delivery, Quality & Process Management
- Plan, track, and deliver audio and tuner software milestones in alignment with OEM schedules.
- Ensure process adherence to ASPICE (SWE1–SWE6, SYS5) and ISO 26262 Functional Safety standards.
- Drive CI/CD automation, static analysis, and continuous validation across releases.
- Manage issue triage, NOK analysis, and ensure zero critical defects at customer delivery.
- Maintain project KPIs including quality, defect closure rate, and milestone achievement.
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage a multidisciplinary team of DSP engineers, tuner developers, HAL integrators, and verification engineers (10–15 members).
- Define clear roles, deliverables, and growth paths for team members.
- Build competency in Android Audio Framework, DSP optimization, and tuner system development through targeted upskilling.
- Conduct performance reviews, mentoring, and recognition programs to ensure strong team engagement.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the technical and delivery interface for OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and platform partners (Qualcomm, NXP, TI, etc.).
- Participate in customer reviews, design discussions, and risk assessments.
- Provide regular status updates, risk mitigations, and technical documentation to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support new program bids (RFQs) by contributing to technical feasibility, resource estimation, and architecture inputs.
Required Skills & Experience
- B.E. / B.Tech / M.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, or Embedded Systems Engineering.
- 10–14 years of experience in automotive infotainment software, with 3+ years in a managerial or technical lead role.
- Prior exposure to OEM / Tier-1 deliveries (Renault, Nissan, VW, Stellantis, Ford, etc.).
- Knowledge of Voice Assistant integration, ANC, or Hands-Free Telephony is an added advantage.
- Strong fundamentals in Digital Signal Processing (DSP), filters, EQs, and automotive audio design.
- Proven experience in C/C++ and MATLAB for DSP algorithm development and verification.
- Hands-on experience with Qualcomm Audio HAL, AudioReach, ACDB, and AFE on Android.
- Deep understanding of AM/FM, DAB, and DRM tuner stacks, including diversity and blending concepts.
- Experience with Audio Precision, TUNE Professional, QACT, or equivalent tools for tuning and validation.
- Exposure to Android AudioFlinger, Audio Policy, and Audio Manager frameworks.
- Familiarity with communication protocols (I2S, TDM, I2C, SPI) and amplifier interfacing (Dirana, TAS, etc.).
- Experience working on Qualcomm SA8155 / SA8255 / SA8295 SoCs is mandatory.
- Strong understanding of ASPICE, CI/CD, and software lifecycle best practices.
