Mattel is seeking a Finance Analyst for a fixed-term contract position in Barcelona. This role is part of the EMEA Brand Finance Team and reports to the EMEA A&P lead. The Finance Analyst will be instrumental in managing the Advertising & Promotion (A&P) process across EMEA markets and brands. Key responsibilities include managing A&P accruals, performing spend tracking and analysis, assisting with forecasting, and acting as a financial point of contact for marketing teams. The role also involves supporting product selection, pricing, and Consumer Products (CP) P&L management, ensuring profitable line setups and flawless local activation. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, and a solid understanding of financial principles.

EMEA Brand Finance is fully dedicated to support EMEA Franchise team (Local and Regional Marketing, and Consumer Products team).

It oversees, A&P (Advertising & Promotion) budget, CP P&L and Product selection & Pricing.

In this role, you’ll be a strategic partner to the business and responsible for reporting, analysis, periodic close activities, forecasting, and annual planning processes.

The Opportunity

The Finance Analyst (fix term contract) role based in Barcelona, part of the EMEA Brand Finance Team, will report to the EMEA A&P lead.

You'll play an instrumental role in ensuring an effective A&P management process across some of the EMEA markets and across all brands within the Mattel portfolio.

Working hand in hand with the Regional & Local Marketing Team you will be guarantor of a reliable set of data in the A&P tracking tool and correct setting & tracking of A&P Accrual.

You will support also Regional & local team on their Product selection and pricing for some brands, ensuring a profitable line setup and flawless local activation.

You might also support on the CP P&L management interacting with the local teams during the Forecasting process.

What Your Impact Will Be:

Core responsibilities:

  • Close activities: month, quarter, and year close:
    • A&P: Manage the balance of previous year’s cost accruals including reversals and releases
    • A&P: Help build the close accrual
    • A&P + CP: Variation analysis
  • Spend tracking and analysis (A&P):
    • Accuracy checks comparing Anaplan planning to Oracle actuals
    • Maintain a full overview of total spendings, plans and budget ownerships
    • Monitor spendings compared to minimum guarantee obligations
    • Notice and flag potential overspends
  • Forecasting:
    • A&P: Help setting regional budgets by brand and country
    • A&P: Support and monitor budget owners’ detailed planning in Anaplan
    • CP: ‘own’ the full periodical forecast cycle. While working with the regional and local business teams. Including checks and controls
    • CP: Be aware and escalate any risk of plans going off track
  • Business partnership (CP + A&P):
    • Be the financial point of contact for local and regional business teams with a pro-active attitude
    • A&P: You’ll ‘own’ a specific set of budgets – both regional and local
    • CP: You’ll be the financial ‘go-to-person’ for the business for advice and support
  • A&P project coding:
    • Update project coding and structures for marketeers to create POs (purchase orders)
  • Manage your dedicated brand pricing portfolio in partnership with the commercial teams
  • Ad hoc activities, including brand pricing, and A&P and CP analysis and reporting

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

MUST HAVE

  • Proficiency in tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and ideally familiarity with data visualization or BI tools (e.g. Tableau). 
  • Solid written and verbal communication abilities in English.
  • Solid understanding of financial principles including pricing elasticity, ROI, P&L impact, and investment efficiency. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills – able to interpret complex data, generate insights, and turn them into actionable recommendations.
  • Deep understanding of consumer behavior, the retail landscape, and commercial levers. 

PREFERRED

  • Exposure to financial planning and analysis. In the field of advertising and/or licensing would be a plus.
  • Proven pricing experience working in global facing role, across cross-cultural environments, such as within Retail, FMCG, CPG or Toys & Entertainment. 
  • Experience with digital tools or platforms related to commercial or investment management. 
  • A strong eye for detail.
  • Flexible and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • A strong team player.
  • Commercial acumen.
