Applied Materials is seeking a Hardware/Product Development Engineer, PLM (E5) to lead product change management and continuous improvement programs for Epi and FEP products. This role involves owning the service technology roadmap, facilitating intercompany communication on product strategies, and managing strategic vendor issues. The engineer will also support efforts to achieve cost targets and improve operational metrics. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in Epi or FEP and a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering. The position is based in Santa Clara, CA.
Must have:
  • Own product change management (PCM) and control.
  • Initiate and develop Continuous Improvement Programs (CIPs) for Epi and FEP products and services.
  • Own service technology roadmap and field implementation.
  • Facilitate intercompany communication for product strategies, pricing, and spare level contents.
  • Facilitate alignment meetings for product and restricted part orders, roadmap, and market proliferation.
  • Support or lead coordination between intercompany groups (operations, engineering, global program management) to achieve cost targets and improve operational metrics.
  • Re-evaluate product structure and service strategy.
  • Manage strategic vendor issues.
  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in EPI or FEB.
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Must be based in Santa Clara/vicinity.
Good to have:
  • 5 years or more hands-on experience in Epi or FEP

Key Responsibilities

  • Owns product change management (PCM) and control.
  • Initiate and develop CIPs (Continuous Improvement Programs) for Epi and FEP product and service. Technical improvement, reliability, hardware CIP (Continuous Improvement Program) to improve tool uptime and process performance
  • Owns service technology roadmap and implementation in the field including CIP parts qualification, replacements, alternative vendors and cost reduction
  • Facilitates Intercompany communication to align on product strategies, provide guidance on pricing, spare level contents
  • Facilitates alignment meeting for product, and restricted part orders. Facilitate roadmap and market proliferation
  • Support or Lead as necessary effort and coordination between various intercompany groups (such as operations, Engineering and Global Program Management) to achieve divisional cost targets and improve operational metrics
  • Relook at our Product Structure and service strategy
  • Manage strategic vendor issues

Functional Knowledge

  • Regarded as the technical expert in their particular field. Hands on experience in Epi or FEP, 5 years or more preferred
  • Demonstrates in-depth and/or breadth of expertise in own discipline and broad knowledge of other disciplines within the function

  • Leads projects with notable risk and complexity; develops the strategy for project execution

Problem Solving

  • Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business; requires conceptual and innovative thinking to develop solutions

  • Impacts installed base tool performance and growth of service business

To meet minimum qualifications for this opportunity you must have the following:

  • minimum of 5 years experience hands on experience in EPI or FEB strongly preferred!
  • minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred)
  • Must be based in Santa Clara/vicinity (no relocation available)

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
