Nine.com.au is seeking a dynamic Homepage Lead to join its team in Sydney. This role is crucial for driving content strategy and execution across one of Australia's largest news, sport, lifestyle, entertainment, and shopping websites. The Homepage Lead will be responsible for showcasing the best content across all verticals, driving referrals, and shaping the tone and direction of Nine.com.au. Key responsibilities include strategically overseeing and editing the homepage, making critical editorial and legal decisions, collaborating with editors and producers, optimizing homepage performance through A/B testing and analytics, planning strategies for major events, creating visual assets, managing Google Showcase panels, and mentoring junior producers. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a fast-paced digital newsroom, strong news judgment, a thorough understanding of legal best practices, and proficiency in analytics platforms.
Must have:
  • Extensive experience as Digital Producer or homepage editor
  • Exceptional news judgment and editorial decision-making
  • Strong understanding of current affairs and popular culture
  • Knowledge of legal best practices in digital publishing
  • Impeccable English language skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in homepage editing and content curation
  • Proficiency in Adobe Express or similar CMS/image tools
  • Advanced experience with analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Chartbeat)
  • Right to lawfully work and live in Australia

Job Description

Nine.com.au is seeking a dynamic Homepage Lead to join our team in Sydney. This critical role works closely with the Homepage Editor, taking a pivotal role in driving content strategy and execution across one of Australia's biggest news, sport, lifestyle, entertainment, and shopping websites.

In this role you'll be responsible for showcasing the best content across all verticals, from breaking news to the latest in sport and entertainment, driving referrals to key stakeholders, and helping to shape the tone and direction of Nine.com.au. This position is ideal for a candidate with a proven track record in a fast-paced digital news environment or a senior digital producer ready to step into a page editing and digital strategy role.

Day to day you will:

  • Strategically oversee and edit the nine.com.au homepage, ensuring optimal showcasing of content, breaking news, and exclusive stories. 
  • Make critical editorial and legal decisions regarding content, ensuring high quality and relevance. 
  • Collaborate and build strong relationships with editors and producers across all verticals to meet referral targets. 
  • Optimise homepage performance through A/B testing of images and headlines, continuously monitoring analytics to inform content strategy. 
  • Plan and execute homepage strategies for major events like elections, the Oscars, and the Olympics. 
  • Create engaging visual assets (images, story blocks, graphics) optimised for desktop and mobile. 
  • Manage Google Showcase panels to maximise visibility and traffic. 
  • Mentor junior digital producers and stay abreast of competitor activities and industry best practices. 

Qualifications

What you'll bring:

  • Extensive experience as a Digital Producer, homepage editor, or similar role in a fast-paced, high-volume digital newsroom.
  • Exceptional news judgment and the proven ability to make quick, sound editorial decisions under pressure.
  • A strong understanding of current affairs, global events, and popular culture, with the ability to distinguish between significant news and trending topics.
  • Thorough understanding of legal best practices in digital publishing, including defamation, copyright, and privacy laws.
  • Impeccable knowledge of the English language including grammar, syntax, and journalistic style, with a keen eye for detail. 
  • Proven experience in homepage editing and sophisticated content curation, with a focus on audience engagement and traffic.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Express (or similar) and expert-level command of various CMS and image editing tools.
  • Advanced experience with analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Chartbeat) and a data-driven approach.
  • Flexibility to work Sunday to Thursday, aligning with peak news cycles and operational needs.
  • Demonstrated capacity to innovate and adapt to evolving digital trends and technologies.
