Job Description

This internship offers practical work experience in applying Workplace Health, Safety, and Environment (WHS) policies and procedures within a professional setting. The role supports the WHS team in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment, assisting with risk assessments, incident investigations, safety audits, training, and environmental initiatives. This is a 12-week summer experience, running from December to February.
Must Have:
  • Assist in conducting workplace inspections and hazard assessments
  • Support incident reporting and investigation processes
  • Help maintain WHS documentation including policies, procedures and registers
  • Participate in the development and delivery of safety training materials
  • Contribute to WHS compliance audits and reporting
  • Research and stay updated on relevant WHS legislation and standards
  • Contribute to environmental sustainability projects
  • Undertaking or recently completed relevant tertiary education
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Basic understanding of WHS regulations and practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Committed to ongoing learning and development
  • Able to complete assigned tasks within designated time frames
  • Willing to ask for help and guidance
  • High attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, proactive and confident
  • Strong problem solving skills

Job Summary: The incumbent will have the opportunity to gain practical work experience in applying WHS policies and procedures in a professional setting. This position supports the WHS team in fostering a safe and compliant work environment. Additionally, assists with risk assessments, incident investigations, safety audits, training and environmental initiatives.

12- Week Summer Experience

December- February

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in conducting workplace inspections and hazard assessments
  • Support incident reporting and investigation processes
  • Help maintain WHS documentation including policies, procedures and registers
  • Participate in the development and delivery of safety training materials
  • Contribute to WHS compliance audits and reporting
  • Research and stay updated on relevant WHS legislation and standards
  • Contribute to Cubic’s organisational objectives by working across a variety of projects
  • Under the direction and support of a supervisor, complete assigned duties in a timely manner
  • Build positive working relationships with fellow team members and share information, knowledge and skills
  • Actively participate in learning and development opportunities presented
  • In consultation with a supervisor, identify areas for technical and personal improvement and address these skill and knowledge gaps through on the job training
  • Provide assistance to more senior team members to achieve team objectives and work outcomes
  • Respond to any enquiries and requests, and provide accurate information or arrange suitable action as necessary
  • Contribute to environmental sustainability projects (waste reduction, energy efficiency, recycling)

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comply with Cubic’s Quality Management System
  • Comply with Cubic Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures
  • Comply with security in accordance with established policies and procedures of the organisations
  • Comply with Cubic Human Resources Procedures
  • Other duties as requested

Minimum Job Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Undertaking or recently completed relevant tertiary education

Skills/Experience/Knowledge

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Basic understanding of WHS regulations and practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Committed to ongoing learning and development including exposure to ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
  • Able to complete assigned tasks within designated time frames
