Internship - Filtering for the detection of GNSS signal spoofing - M/F

Thales

Job Summary

This internship is part of a collaborative project focused on ensuring the navigation of aeronautical systems in environments degraded by GNSS signal interference. The intern will join an agile team to study Lie group theory for navigation state estimation, design an estimation approach, develop GNSS spoofing detection criteria, and implement/simulate these algorithms. The role involves evaluating detection performance and quantifying its impact on filtering compared to a classical extended Kalman filter.

Must Have

  • Study Lie group theory and its application to navigation state estimation.
  • Design an estimation approach leveraging system symmetries on Lie groups.
  • Develop GNSS spoofing detection criteria based on this theory.
  • Implement and simulate detection and estimation algorithms.
  • Evaluate spoofed signal detection performance through simulation.
  • Quantify the impact of detection on filtering performance compared to a classical extended Kalman filter.
  • BAC+5 in applied mathematics and algorithmics (statistical filtering, estimation, data fusion).
  • Knowledge of Matlab.
  • Ability to understand scientific articles in English.
  • Knowledge of Lie group principles and inertial navigation.
  • Knowledge of Python language.
  • Familiarity with agile methodology and Git.

Perks & Benefits

  • Our technological expertise
  • Our attention to employee work-life balance
  • An inclusive and benevolent environment
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index…)
  • All our internships are conventional and subject to remuneration, the amount of which is determined by your level of study.
  • Thales, a Handi-Engaged company, recognizes all talents. Diversity is our best asset.

Job Description

Let's build a future of trust together

Thales is a global leader in high technology specializing in three sectors: Defense & Security, Aeronautics & Space, and Cyber & Digital. It develops products and solutions that contribute to a safer, more environmentally friendly, and more inclusive world. The Group invests nearly 4 billion euros per year in Research & Development, particularly in key innovation areas such as AI, cybersecurity, quantum, cloud technologies, and 6G. Thales has nearly 81,000 employees in 68 countries.

Our commitments, your benefits

  • Our technological expertise
  • Our attention to employee work-life balance
  • An inclusive and benevolent environment
  • Recognized societal and environmental commitment (Thales Solidarity, CAC 40 ESG index…)

Your daily life

By joining us in Valence, you will integrate the global center of gravity for our helicopter avionics activities. It also houses our digital services activities.

CONTEXT:

The Thales Avionics Division at the Valence site provides navigation solutions for aeronautics and space, intended for civil and military applications. You will be integrated into the Sensors Department of the Competence Center — Aeronautical Equipment.

This internship is part of a collaborative internship project whose central objective is to ensure the navigation of aeronautical systems in a degraded context due to the perturbation of GNSS signals. In this context, you will be part of a team of interns working in agile mode in a common workspace and prototyping area, with shared resources (simulation tools and an autonomous robot), and supervised by several experienced engineers. The challenge is as much individual as collective progress for the team to achieve the proposed objective.

YOUR MISSIONS ARE:

  • Study the theory of Lie groups and its application to navigation state estimation.
  • Design an estimation approach exploiting system symmetries on Lie groups.

YOUR PROFILE:

Do you have the ambition to develop new skills within a large international group?

Do you want to discover a rich and varied profession?

Are analysis, autonomy, proactivity, and teamwork recognized strengths?

You are preparing a BAC+5 in applied mathematics and algorithmics (statistical filtering, estimation, data fusion...) and are looking for an end-of-study internship?

You have knowledge in:

  • Matlab;
  • English for understanding scientific articles;
  • Principles of Lie groups and inertial navigation;
  • Python language;
  • Agile methodology and you use GIT.

Then this position is for you!

Are we still on the same page? Yes? Then, don't wait any longer, apply!

All our internships are conventional and subject to remuneration, the amount of which is determined by your level of study.

Thales, a Handi-Engaged company, recognizes all talents. Diversity is our best asset.
