Job Summary

This early-career Junior Data Scientist role at AAVantgarde Bio, facilitated by GT, focuses on clinical data management, data science, statistics, and regulated analytics within ophthalmology gene therapy. The position involves supporting CRO Data Management, performing data quality checks, and contributing to analytics-ready datasets using Python, SAS, and SQL, ensuring compliance with GCP/GDPR standards.

Must Have

  • Support internal oversight of CRO Data Management teams.
  • Review clinical data for completeness, consistency, and analysis readiness.
  • Perform independent data quality checks, exploratory analyses, and consistency reviews.
  • Identify, document, and communicate data issues, trends, and risks.
  • Build working knowledge of ophthalmology endpoints, imaging-based data, and disease-specific outcomes.
  • Use Python and/or SAS to support data cleaning, validation, and exploratory analysis.
  • Query and curate clinical data using Snowflake or similar cloud data platforms.
  • Apply foundational statistical methods to support data review and insight generation.
  • Handle clinical data in compliance with GCP, GDPR, and internal governance requirements.
  • Collaborate with Biometrics, Clinical Operations, and external vendors.
  • Degree in a quantitative or scientific discipline (e.g. statistics, data science, bioinformatics, mathematics, engineering, life sciences).
  • Foundational knowledge of statistics and analytical reasoning.
  • Experience with, or strong aptitude for, Python and/or SAS.
  • Familiarity with SQL and modern data platforms (Snowflake or equivalent).
  • Strong interest in clinical research, ophthalmology, or regulated environments.
  • Awareness of GCP principles and GDPR / data protection requirements.

Good to Have

  • Exposure to clinical trials, ophthalmology data, or imaging-based endpoints.
  • Experience interacting with CROs or vendor oversight models.
  • Data visualisation or dashboarding experience.
  • Awareness of AI or LLM applications in healthcare or life sciences.
  • Prior experience in GxP-regulated environments.

AAVantgarde Bio is an international clinical-stage biotechnology company developing next-generation gene therapies for inherited retinal diseases. The company has created two proprietary technologies that enable the delivery of large genes into human cells, overcoming one of the major limitations of traditional gene therapy approaches. About the Role

The Junior Data Scientist is a role that sits at the intersection of clinical data management, data science, statistics, and regulated analytics within an ophthalmology-focused gene therapy environment.

This is an early-career position, designed for someone eager to build hands-on experience with clinical trial data, ophthalmology endpoints, and GCP/GDPR-compliant data practices. You will support high-quality clinical data delivery through internal oversight of CRO Data Management activities, independent data quality checks, and contribution to analytics-ready datasets using modern programming and statistical tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Support internal oversight of CRO Data Management teams, ensuring data quality, timelines, and standards
  • Review clinical data for completeness, consistency, and analysis readiness
