Job Summary
As a Lead Animator, you will be responsible for creating high-quality character, creature, and/or object animations for feature films, often tackling the most challenging shots and finding solutions to support your team. You will collaborate closely with other leads, supervisors, and the head of department to identify and resolve both technical and artistic problems, ensuring that rigs meet the animation department's needs and providing technical support to team members in shot creation.
Must Have
- Create high-quality character, creature, or object animations for feature films.
- Collaborate with leads, supervisors, and HOD to solve technical and artistic problems.
- Ensure rigs meet animation department needs by working with the rigging department.
- Support animation team members with the technical aspects of shot creation.
- Possess 3-5 years of experience in an animation lead role on feature films.
- Required knowledge of Maya.
- Strong understanding of animation basics: acting, staging, posing, weight, timing, and storytelling.
- Maintain a good attitude and adapt smoothly to project changes.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of physical motion, weight, and composition from a fine arts background.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems, escalating as needed.
Good to Have
- Degree/bachelor's in animation or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 4-6 years of experience as a film animation team leader.
- Knowledge of human and animal anatomy, and life drawing skills.
- Knowledge of Nuke and 3ds Max.
- Coding/scripting experience in Python or MEL.
- Previs experience.
Job Description
As a Lead Animator, you will be responsible for creating high-quality character, creature and/or object animations for feature films, typically tackling the hardest shots and/or finding solutions to support other members of the team in completing their shots.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality character, creature and/or object animations for feature films
- Work closely with other leads, supervisors and head of department to identify and solve problems, both technical and artistic
- Work with the rigging department to ensure rigs meet the needs of the animation department
- Support animation team members, particularly with the technical side of creating shots
Qualifications
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a animation lead position on feature films
- Knowledge of Maya (required)
- Must have a strong sense of animation basics; acting, staging, posing, weight, timing and storytelling
- A good attitude and ability to smoothly change and adapt with the project
- Background or experience in fine arts demonstrating a thorough understanding of physical motion, weight, and composition
- Knowledge of human and animal anatomy as well as life drawing skills is desirable
- Ability to troubleshoot/solve technical problems and escalate as needed
- Knowledge of Nuke and 3ds Max (a plus)
