Job Description

The Surfacing/Lookdev Artist creates photorealistic textures and develops the look for hard surface and organic models, environments, hero creature work and character work. This role involves creating hand-painted and set photography textures, assembling them into shading networks, and collaborating with modeling, shading, and lighting artists to achieve the desired look development.
Good To Have:
  • Bachelor's degree of Digital Arts or equivalent experience.
  • Detail oriented both creatively and technically.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new workflows and methods.
  • Ability to complete tasks within production schedules and deadlines.
  • Open and responsive to guidance and review notes.
  • Experience using Photoshop, ZBrush, Mudbox.
  • Experience using 3ds Max, V-Ray, Nuke.
  • Familiarity with digital photography.
Must Have:
  • Create photorealistic textures for hero CG assets.
  • Assemble textures into shading networks and tweak lookdev to match references.
  • Work independently and collaborate with other artists and supervisors.
  • Minimum two years of experience in VFX for live action feature films or television.
  • Clear understanding of color space, shading, lighting, and rendering methodologies.
  • Experience using Mari and Maya is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create photorealistic textures, both hand-painted and from set photography to a level of detail necessary for hero CG assets
  • Assemble the textures into a shading network and tweaks its lookdev to accurately match the references
  • Work independently on defined tasks, but in collaboration with artists and supervisors in modeling, shading, and lighting during the look development process

Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in visual effects for live action feature films or television
  • Bachelor's degree of Digital Arts or equivalent experience
  • Clear understanding of color space, shading, lighting, and rendering methodologies
  • Detail oriented both creatively and technically
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new workflows and methods
  • Ability to complete tasks within production schedules and deadlines in an organized manner
  • Open and responsive to guidance and review notes from supervisors, both creative and technical
  • Experience using Mari and Maya is essential, Photoshop, ZBrush, Mudbox
  • Experience using 3ds Max, V-Ray, Nuke, ZBrush, Mudbox
  • Familiarity with digital photography
