Scout Motors is seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure using IaC, container orchestration (EKS/K8S), and CI/CD practices. The engineer will collaborate with development and integration teams, ensure high availability and performance, and implement robust monitoring and logging solutions. Candidates should have 10+ years of DevOps experience, expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), configuration management (Ansible, Chef, Puppet), and CI/CD tools. Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills are essential.
Must Have:
  • Design and maintain cloud infrastructure with IaC.
  • Build infrastructure using EKS/K8S container orchestration.
  • Develop CI/CD tools and automation for secure deployments.
  • Implement monitoring and logging solutions.
  • Lead infrastructure, site reliability, and engineering productivity systems.
  • 10+ years DevOps, system architect, or platform-focused software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in Python, Shell, Ruby for automation.
  • Strong experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Expertise in Ansible, Chef, Puppet for configuration management.

  • Expert knowledge of Terraform, Pulumi, or CDK for IaC.
  • Expertise in Rust, GoLang, Python, or Java for platform integrations and automations.

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of the overall cloud infrastructure platform using modern IaC (Infrastructure as Code) practices.
  • Work closely with software development and systems integration teams to build end-to-end solutions.
  • Design and build infrastructure utilizing container orchestration such as EKS/K8S.
  • Help choose and select managed cloud services that meet the needs of the platform engineering team to support software development goals.
  • Design and build CICD tools, automation, and practices to enable agile and secure software deployments.
  • Design and implement cloud infrastructure components, ensuring high availability, reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Implement monitoring solutions to proactively identify and address potential issues.
  • Implement logging solutions to facilitate efficient troubleshooting and analysis.
  • Collaborate with security teams to ensure the platform meets industry standards and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, developers, and QA engineers to ensure robust and reliable systems.
  • Lead engineers in designing, building, and maintaining all infrastructure, site reliability, and engineering productivity systems.
  • Own the Developer experience at Scout by contributing to the design and implementation of the internal developer portal.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role may be based out of a Scout Motors location in Fremont, California; or remotely to start with relocation to the future Scout Motors headquarters.
  • The responsibilities of this role require 2 days per week attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience as a DevOps engineer, system architect, or software engineer with a focus on platform systems.
  • Proficient in building automation using languages such as Python, Shell, Ruby, and others.
  • Strong experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Expertise in configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab Pipelines, Harness.io, ArgoCD).
  • Expert knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Expert Knowledge of infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi, or CDK).
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. When a problem occurs, you run towards it not away.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills. You treat colleagues with respect. You have a desire for clean implementations but are also humble in discussing alternative solutions and options.
  • A teaching and coaching approach to guiding engineers and teams in approaches.
  • Expertise in the design and development of software solutions to support platform integrations, automations and developer experiences using languages such as Rust, GoLang, Python or Java.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $160,000.00 - $192,500.00

Initial California base salary range = $176,000.00 - $211,750.00
