Job Summary

HandyGames™ is seeking a Lead Game Designer (f/m/d) for their headquarters in Giebelstadt, Germany. This on-site role involves leading design teams for an in-house science fiction game project, focusing on story and combat. The designer will work closely with art, design, and programming teams, primarily using Unity, to create next-gen content for PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, and more. The ideal candidate will have several years of experience in game design, leadership, and a strong understanding of game systems and narrative integration.

Must Have

  • Several years of professional experience as a Game Designer, ideally in a Lead or Senior position.
  • Experience leading design teams and managing stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of Unity, including prototyping.
  • Ability to work in a structured way, communicate clearly, and guide others.
  • Keen sense for Soulslike-inspired combat systems and their intended player experience.
  • Understanding of how movement, exploration, and world design interact to create tension and flow.
  • Ability to interweave gameplay and story to create emotional impact and immersion.
  • An eye for presentational details that enhance the gameplay experience.
  • Skilled in effective conflict management.
  • Good sense of aesthetics, light, and composition.

Good to Have

  • Basic scripting skills (a plus for Unity).

For our current in-house game project, which is set in a science fiction world with a focus on story and combat, we are looking for a Lead Game Designer (f/m/d) with a good sense of aesthetics, light and composition. Work closely with our art, design, and programming teams to breathe life into our game ideas.

Within the game project you will mainly work with the game engine Unity.
