Mad Head Games is seeking a Lead Gameplay Programmer to drive the development of core gameplay features and lead a talented team. The role involves collaborating with designers and producers, ensuring code quality, planning tasks, mentoring team members, and maintaining smooth operations. Ideal candidates have shipped AA/AAA titles, possess strong C++ and gameplay systems knowledge, and enjoy problem-solving and leadership.

Must Have:
  • Understand game design and ensure tech alignment

Are you passionate about creating immersive gameplay experiences and leading high-performing teams? We’re looking for a Lead Gameplay Programmer to help drive the development of core gameplay features and lead a small, but very talented team. You’ll work closely with game designers and producers to make sure the tech matches the vision, keep the codebase clean and maintainable, plan and delegate tasks, support your team’s growth, and keep things running smoothly. If you’ve shipped at least one AA or AAA title, know your way around C++ and gameplay systems, and enjoy solving problems and leading by example, keep on reading.

We are unconventional creators of action games for PC and consoles - extremely fun to work with and definitely not for the faint-hearted.

For over a decade, we pioneered the local game dev scene, driven by the ambition to become the regional game dev leader.

On that quest, we pave our way with exciting games developed in Unreal Engine. Our latest released title, Scars Above, is a challenging and immersive 3rd-person sci-fi shooter set in a mysterious alien world. Currently, we’re developing Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival - a first-person action horror survival game based on the beloved franchise. Alongside that, we’re working on an unannounced AAA title set in a famous and beloved IP that fans are sure to anticipate. While we can't reveal too much just yet, we can promise these titles will push the boundaries of regional game development and generate some serious hype.

What will you be doing as a Mad Head?

  • Understand the game design of the project and make sure tech is aligned with the design
  • Ensure code maintainability, control technical debt
  • Define team work processes (code review, autotests, JIRA tickets granularity, meetings, etc.)
  • Plan and delegate team tasks based on priorities, capacity, and deadlines while ensuring realistic workload and clear expectations.
  • Track team progress and facilitates collaboration and smooth communication with other departments
  • Provide mentorship and supports individual growth and career development through knowledge sharing and regular 1-on-1 meetings
  • Provide constructive feedback to guide performance and participates in evaluation processes
  • Keep the team informed on goals, priorities, and any relevant project or task changes
  • Ensure the quality of technical design of gameplay features
  • Ensure a reasonable velocity for the production of new features
  • Make sure there're no bugs that interfere with playtesting by game designers
  • Be the point of contact in the project regarding the implementation of gameplay features. Collaborate with producers and game designers
  • Assess the feasibility of the roadmap for the production of gameplay features and escalate risks
  • Plan team capacity and collaborates with the Recruitment team in hiring new team members

What do we expect from our ideal candidate?

  • Shipped at least one AA or AAA game for PC/Consoles as Gameplay Programmer/Lead Gameplay Programmer
  • 5+ years of experience in AAA industry working in Gameplay Programming department
  • Proven experience of Leading the team of programmers
  • Experience working with design and implementation of gameplay systems
  • Strong knowledge of C++ programming language
  • Experience working in Game engines
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to anticipate risks and address issues proactively.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Self-motivated, driven individual - able to identify problems and execute on solutions

It would be a plus if you have:

  • Experience of working with animations systems
  • Unreal Engine experience
  • Experience of working with Blueprints, GAS
