Rocksteady is seeking a Lead Gameplay Programmer to manage a team of game coders, delivering world-class triple-A gaming experiences. This role focuses on implementing exciting, emergent gameplay, coordinating NPC behaviors, navigation, and combat scenarios to empower player freedom. Responsibilities include leading feature implementation, collaborating with design and other disciplines, and supporting team development and production tasks.

Must Have

  • Lead implementation of core gameplay features.

  • Collaborate with Directors, Leads, and team members.

  • Advise on improving studio development processes.
  • Support Production with backlog reviews, task estimation, Jira.

  • Experience leading a team.
  • Advanced C++, AI & navigation, in-game combat systems.
  • Proficient with main gaming platforms and software development.
  • Shipped at least one AAA video game title.
  • Demonstrable videogame design skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Job Description

Your New Role…

Rocksteady is looking to add to its family of staff: the Lead Gameplay Programmer will manage a team of game coders to deliver world-class triple-A videogaming experiences for our players across multiple platforms. The role focuses on delivering exciting, emergent gameplay through coordinating NPC behaviours, including navigation and planning, in combat scenarios empowering player freedom and choice.

The Lead Gameplay Programmer role is offered on a hybrid basis. You can choose to work from home or in the office on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the team collaborates onsite at Rocksteady Studios in Kentish Town, London.

Your Role Accountabilities…

  • Leading the implementation of core gameplay features through all stages of production: design, scheduling, implementation, iteration and polish.
  • Working closely with Design, giving constructive and proactive input, to realize the vision of the game.
  • Collaborating with Directors, Leads and team members from all disciplines, communicating technical concepts and requirements in a way that facilitates smooth workflow and keeps people informed of both risks and opportunities.
  • Being a positive, active, and contributing team member.
  • Offering advice and suggestions for improving studio development processes.
  • Support Production with backlog reviews, task estimation, and Jira ticket management.
  • Support your Team with one-to-ones, training, guidance and goal setting.

Qualifications & Experience…

  • Experience leading a team.
  • Advanced understanding of C++, AI & navigation, in-game combat systems.
  • Proficient understanding of the main gaming platforms and developing software for them.
  • Experience working on and shipping at least one AAA video game title.
  • Demonstrable videogame design skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Unreal Engine experience an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Rocksteady games is an advantage.

Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
