Walt Disney Imagineering is seeking a Lead HVAC Inspector for new-build cruise ships in Papenburg, Germany. This role involves comprehensive inspection of HVAC and refrigeration systems, ensuring compliance with specifications, statutory, and class requirements. The Lead Inspector will guide a team, plan inspections, document findings, and collaborate with various stakeholders. The goal is to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant system installations, thereby enhancing the operational efficiency, safety, comfort, and thermal management of Disney cruise vessels.
Must Have
- Conduct thorough inspections of HVAC and refrigeration systems at various construction stages.

- Organize, prioritize, and assign daily inspection plans and tasks to the team.

- Assess quality of installations, identify deviations, and work with teams to correct issues.
- Ensure systems guarantee proper air quality, thermal comfort, and safe handling of refrigerants.
- Collaborate closely with shipbuilders, engineers, designers, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee testing and commissioning of HVAC and refrigeration systems.

WDI Germany provides technical, architectural, and design services for new-build cruise ships, specializing in managing and overseeing the design, construction, and outfitting processes in Germany and other parts of the world.
Responsible for HVAC and Refrigeration Inspections. This inspector will cover all areas and systems within the vessels that require competence in HVAC and refrigeration technologies. The HVAC & Refrigeration Lead Inspector will ensure that shipboard installations meet specifications and all applicable statutory and class requirements, attend commissioning Test and trial and inspection if needed.
A Lead HVAC & Refrigeration Inspector on a site team contributes to the successful construction of ships by ensuring the effective, compliant, and safe installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, thereby enhancing the operational efficiency, safety, comfort, and thermal management of the vessels.
This position will be located in Papenburg, Germany.
What You Will Do
- Inspection and Verification: Conducts thorough inspections of HVAC and refrigeration systems at various stages of ship construction. Verifies that installations align with approved plans, design drawings, and industry standards. This includes checking the placement and installation of ducts, chillers, refrigeration plants, cold rooms, cooling systems, ventilation components, and control mechanisms.
- Team Leadership and Coaching: Provides guidance, mentoring, and technical coaching to other HVAC inspectors. Supports the development of the team’s competencies, ensuring consistent inspection quality and adherence to standards.
- Daily Inspection Planning: Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns daily inspection plans and tasks to the team of HVAC inspectors, ensuring efficient workflow and optimal coverage of shipboard inspection activities.
- Code and Regulatory Compliance: Ensures compliance with maritime HVAC and refrigeration regulations. Confirms that systems adhere to international and regional standards set by organizations such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO), classification societies, and applicable refrigeration directives (e.g., F-gas regulations).
- Documentation: Maintains detailed records of inspections, tests, refrigeration system leak checks, and any corrective actions taken. Ensures accountability, regulatory compliance, and provides historical references for future inspections.
- Quality Control: Assesses the quality of HVAC and refrigeration installations, identifying deviations or deficiencies. Works with construction teams to correct issues and ensures systems are installed and functioning according to specifications.
- Safety and Efficiency: Ensures that HVAC and refrigeration systems are designed and installed to guarantee proper air quality, thermal comfort, temperature control, humidity management, and safe handling of refrigerants; promoting both health and environmental protection.
- Coordination and Collaboration: Collaborates closely with shipbuilders, engineers, designers, and other key stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of HVAC and refrigeration systems with other ship components.
- Testing and Commissioning: Oversees testing and commissioning of HVAC and refrigeration systems, ensuring proper calibration, leak-tightness, efficient performance, and the ability to operate under various conditions.
- Adaptation to Change: Stays updated on the latest advancements in HVAC and refrigeration technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes to continuously improve inspection practices.
What You Bring
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration codes, standards, and maritime regulations
- 7+ years of relevant work experience in HVAC and refrigeration
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills
- Prior experience in shipbuilding, maritime construction, or ship operations
- Familiarity with marine safety, environmental requirements, and refrigerant handling regulations
- Certifications in HVAC and refrigeration from recognized professional institutions are advantageous
Required Education
- Relevant education in HVAC technology, maritime engineering, or a related field
