Job Description

LightSpeed Japan Studio is seeking a Lighting Artist to design and implement lighting for game scenes, levels, and cutscenes, enhancing the game's atmosphere while balancing performance and quality. The role involves close collaboration with artists, engineers, and designers, and optimizing lighting tools. Candidates should have experience as a Lighting Artist on AAA game projects, proficiency in game engines like Unreal Engine and Unity, and a strong understanding of lighting principles, color balance, and post-processing effects. Effective communication, teamwork, creativity, and visual insight are essential.
Must have:
  • Experience as a Lighting Artist on AAA game projects.
  • Proficient in setting up and adjusting lighting within game engines such as Unreal Engine and Unity.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of lighting, including light and shadow, color balance, and post-processing effects in graphics.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills with both art and technical teams.
  • High level of creativity and visual insight.
Good to have:
  • Experience developing for next-generation consoles.
  • Knowledge and experience with Physically Based Rendering (PBR).
  • Background in cinematography or film lighting.
  • Basic knowledge of shaders and scripting.

LightSpeed Japan Studio is a game development studio dedicated to crafting original AAA action game titles for global audiences. Led by industry veteran Hideaki Itsuno, the studio operates across two locations in Tokyo and Osaka.

What the Role Entails

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and implement lighting for scenes, levels, and cutscenes within the game.
  • Achieve the artistic vision for lighting to enhance the game’s atmosphere and mood.
  • Develop optimal lighting solutions while balancing performance and quality.
  • Collaborate closely with other artists, engineers, and designers, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and techniques.
  • Suggest improvements and optimize tools and workflows related to lighting.

Work Location

Osaka (JR Osaka Station JP TOWER OSAKA), Tokyo (Toranomon Hills Business Tower) *Subject to preference

Salary

Annual salary: Negotiable (with raises/bonuses)

*Consideration will be given to experience, skills, etc., and will be treated favorably according to company regulations.

*For general employees, fixed overtime pay for 35 hours per month is included.

For managerial positions, fixed overtime pay for 10 hours is included.

Working Hours and Holidays

Working hours: 09:30 ~ 18:30, Break time: 60 minutes

Flexible time available

Complete two-day weekend system (Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays)

Paid leave: For the first year of employment, granted proportionally based on the month of joining. Up to 22 days based on years of service.

New Year's holiday (December 30th to January 3rd)

Sick leave (paid): 12 days/year (granted separately from paid leave)
