Job Description

Starbreeze is seeking a Lighting Artist for their PAYDAY/PUBG collaboration. This mid-level role involves creating and implementing in-game lighting in Unreal Engine 4, adhering to art direction while independently finding creative solutions. Close collaboration with Art and Tech teams is crucial to maintain quality and consistency. Responsibilities include using project management tools (e.g., Jira) and ensuring lighting performance and cost-effectiveness. The position requires experience in AA+ console/PC game development, strong artistic skills, and a deep understanding of lighting principles. The role is based in Stockholm with a hybrid work schedule (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the office).

We are looking to hire a Lighting Artist to join our PAYDAY/PUBG collaboration project. You will create and implement lighting for various settings that elicit the desired atmosphere of the art direction. 

As a Mid-level member of our team, you will primarily focus on supporting the project and your colleagues whilst continuing to hone your craft and expertise under general direction.

Please note that this role must be based in Stockholm with Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as set office days.


Responsibilities:

  • Creating and implementing in-game lighting using Unreal Engine 4;

  • Follow references, concepts, and art direction while also having the initiative to take the work further independently;

  • Working closely with the Art and Tech teams to ensure that quality is consistent and cohesive;

  • Updating work and backlog using project management and planning tools (e.g. JIRA).


Requirements:

  • Experience working as a Lighting Artist or similar role in the development of AA+ console/PC games;

  • Ability to find creative solutions to lighting problems at more complex levels;

  • Great understanding of performance and cost of lighting;

  • Strong artistic skill set, a good sense of light, colors, and materials.


Nice to have:

  • Experience working with Unreal Engine 4 and/or 5;

  • Experience working in real-time PBR lighting workflows using a combination of baked and real-time lighting models;

  • An interest in a variety of different game genres.


Interview process:

  1. 30-minute introductory video call with a member of our Talent Acquisition team

  2. 60-minute video interview with our Art Producer and Senior Environment Artist;

  3. 60-minute video interview with our Studio Art Director and the project’s Producer.
