Job Description

The Manager, Editor Communications is responsible for engaging and mobilizing Springer Nature's external community of over 100,000 Editors and Editorial Board Members. This role involves developing and delivering a regular program of campaigns to inform and foster loyalty among editorships of externally run journals. Key responsibilities include managing content pipelines, creating and coordinating written and multimedia content for core communication channels, and supporting editor events. The manager also serves as a point of contact for developing and implementing editor communication plans for key projects and organizational changes, working in a hybrid model from New York.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience and strong understanding of research publishing, peer review and the role of Editorial Boards
  • Demonstrable understanding and interest in scientific research, the publishing landscape, and editorial best practices
  • Experience of managing projects with cross-departmental stakeholders and working with global teams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to tailor content for different audiences and platforms
  • Confidence in communicating, engaging and working cooperatively with stakeholders at various levels of seniority, including researchers, editors, and other partners in a professional manner
  • Excellent organisational skills and self-motivated, with ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively across teams

About the Role

The Springer Nature Editor Engagement Team works to engage and mobilise the external community of over 100,000 Editors and Editorial Board Members (EBMs). The Manager, Editor Communications role is responsible for the delivery of a regular programme of campaigns to inform and earn the loyalty of the editorships of externally run Springer Nature journals. Working with teams across Springer Nature, you will manage the pipeline of content, creating and coordinating written and multimedia content to be shared via our core communication channels, as well as supporting our editor events programme. You will also serve as a recognised touchpoint for the development and implementation of editor communication plans for key projects and organisational changes. This role can be in our New York offices on a hybrid working model.

Responsibilities:

Programme Development

  • Work with the Senior Manager, Editor Communications to develop and deliver the editor communications strategy aligned with organizational objectives, including a regular programme of targeted campaigns for Editor and EBM audiences
  • Identify audience needs and priorities, creating effective communication plans that utilize the different channels available and maximize engagement
  • Advise on and create new initiatives to engage our external Editors and EBMs
  • Coordinate monthly analytics reporting, monitoring progress against KPIs and informing strategy
  • Keep up-to-date on best practices in external communications

Content Creation:

  • Day-to-day management of the regular programme for external Editors and EBMs
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, preparing engaging written and multimedia communications to inform and motivate Editors and EBMs
  • Serve as a key contact and advisor on Editor communications, supporting both project-specific and ad-hoc communications
  • Work with the Senior Manager, Editor Communications to coordinate and deliver a series of engaging virtual events for Editor and EBM audiences
  • Develop best practice guidance and template materials to support Editorial and Publishing Teams
  • Communicate directly with external Editors and EBMs where appropriate

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Experience and strong understanding of research publishing, peer review and the role of Editorial Boards
