Job Description

The Metrology Technician will be part of the Quality organization at the Gigafactory in Grünheide, Germany. Responsibilities include operating metrology equipment (CMM, Faro, GOM), performing root cause analysis, conducting part sampling for AQL and in-process checks, preparing data/reports for quality improvement, coordinating calibration activities, applying GD&T best practices, collaborating with the Quality Engineering team on continuous improvement, and setting inspection rates according to AQL. The role involves repetitive tasks and may include physical work moving parts and equipment. Proficiency in using metrology software (Calypso, Caligo, Polyworks, GOM Inspect) is required.
Must have:
  • Technical vocational training (material testing, toolmaking, etc.)
  • 2+ years experience in metrology or quality role
  • CMM operation and programming
  • GD&T knowledge
  • Mechanical drawing interpretation
  • Report writing skills
Good to have:
  • Electro-mechanical inspection background
  • Experience with hand measurement tools

What to Expect

The Metrology technician at Gigafactory will work as a member of the Metrology group in the Quality organization. He/she will be assigned to operate a metrology equipment on regular basis. The technician role will be to help root cause analysis using their metrology equipment as well as running part sampling for the AQL and In-Process checks done daily. It will require repetitive work on daily basis.

What You’ll Do
  • Enable Inspection/verification of parts and assemblies using CMM, Faro, GOM and other technologies with Calypso, Caligo, Polyworks and / or GOM inspect software.
  • Provide/analyze data and output reports to assist in quality improvement activities.
  • Coordinate calibration activities, ensure that all test and measurement equipment is calibrated prior to use.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) best practices across departments.
  • Work with the Quality Engineering Team in regards to continuous improvement activities, solving problems and improving overall product quality – may include various physical tasks from time to time with regard to moving parts and equipment
  • Set inspection rates according to Acceptance Quality Limits (AQL).
What You’ll Bring
  • Technical vocational training, preferably in the areas of material testing, toolmaking, metal construction and / or automotive.
  • Flexible hours
  • 2 or more years’ experience in a metrology or quality role operating and programming CMM, preferred
  • Previous electro-mechanical inspection background with the ability to use basic hand measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, thread gauges etc.) preferred
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate proficiency in reading and interpreting basic mechanical drawings, including GD&T (preferred).
  • Present information effectively and prepare detailed technical reports.
