Kavaliro is seeking a P-3 In-Flight Technician (IFT) Instructor – Special Qualifications (SQ) Subject Matter Expert (SME) who will be responsible for developing and delivering mission system operator training for military, foreign military, and domestic customers under DoD or commercial contracts. This role combines curriculum development, classroom instruction, and hands-on flight training to ensure operators, technicians, and maintainers are fully mission-ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for aircrew operator, technician, and maintainer training on aircraft systems and subsystems.
- Analyze, design, and develop training programs and computer-based courseware, using both company-provided tools and commercial software.
- Collaborate with project teams, including Project Managers, Instructional Designers, and Graphic Specialists, and coordinate with customer SMEs and DoD representatives as needed.
- Perform flight crew duties that directly impact aircraft and crew safety, including:
- Conducting aircraft and equipment inspections.
- Operating avionics and mission systems.
- Troubleshooting and resolving mission-critical system discrepancies.
- Handling search/kill stores, cartridge actuated devices (CADs), and support equipment.
- Performing off-site maintenance when required.
- Deliver classroom and practical instruction, assess student performance, and provide feedback — often working with active-duty foreign military personnel.
- Ensure compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and manage Government-Furnished Equipment (GFE) and Information (GFI) securely.
- Support customer briefings, training level-of-effort estimates, and other project requirements as needed.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team (IDs, SMEs, GSs, Programmers).
- Strong discretion and judgment when developing courseware and conducting training.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Comfortable working with military/government personnel and culturally aware when training foreign military members.
- Strong computer skills — word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, databases, and desktop publishing — with the ability to quickly learn additional software for web-based training (JavaScript, HTML, JAVA, SQL/TSQL, Access).
- Familiarity with CAI, CBT, IMI, and WBT development processes.
- Must be able to obtain a security clearance if required by the contract.
- Meet FAA or Navy aeromedical and survival requirements per DoD Contractor Flight and Ground Operations guidelines.
- Must be qualified (or able to requalify) on the P-3 aircraft per DoD or customer requirements.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Graduate of the Fleet Replacement In-Flight Technician (IFT) Category 1 Pipeline course with NEC 8262 (P-3C U III IFT) or 9402 (P-3C AIP).
- At least six (6) years of experience in a P-3 squadron as an IFT.
- Prior experience as a Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) or Squadron-level Instructor.
- NEC 9502 (Instructor) and Master Training Specialist (MTS) designation strongly preferred.
- Avionics and Related Systems Collateral Duty Inspector designation is a plus.
