Job Description

Kavaliro is seeking a Senior Data Scientist who will focus on applying modern data operations practices to design, build, and maintain complex data models, flows, interfaces, and infrastructure that meet program and business needs. You’ll be responsible for designing and deploying databases, integrating data from internal repositories and external systems, and ensuring data is accurate, consistent, and secure. Collaboration is key — you’ll work closely with Solutions Architects, Subject Matter Experts, and Data Scientists to identify, curate, and manage high-quality datasets that power analytics and machine learning efforts.
Good To Have:
  • Experience with DoD data sources, AI/ML workflows, and analytics environments.
  • Familiarity with MS Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint).
  • Relevant business/technical certifications.
Must Have:
  • Acquire, clean, transform, and ingest data for analytics and machine learning pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines (ETL, streaming, and warehousing).
  • Integrate and consolidate data from structured and unstructured sources.
  • Execute entity resolution and deduplication processes for data quality.
  • Monitor data pipelines to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Transform raw data into business-ready outputs for stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and document data pipeline issues.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data operations, data processing, and cleansing.
  • Strong understanding of DataOps principles, database management systems, query languages, and data modeling.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as SQL, Python, R, and HIVE.
  • Skilled in data mining techniques and working with structured/unstructured datasets.
  • Experience creating and maintaining Data Dictionaries.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DoD security clearance (or the ability to obtain one).

Job Description

You’ll be responsible for designing and deploying databases, integrating data from internal repositories and external systems, and ensuring data is accurate, consistent, and secure. Collaboration is key — you’ll work closely with Solutions Architects, Subject Matter Experts, and Data Scientists to identify, curate, and manage high-quality datasets that power analytics and machine learning efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquire, clean, transform, and ingest data using industry best practices to prepare it for analytics and machine learning pipelines.
  • Clean, manipulate, and analyze large, diverse datasets to uncover insights and relationships.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines (ETL, streaming, and warehousing).
  • Integrate and consolidate data from structured and unstructured sources into analytics-ready formats.
  • Map data sources to standardized data dictionaries via web portals.
  • Load initial datasets into client cloud environments and configure recurring data feeds via API, portal, or collection devices.
  • Execute entity resolution and deduplication processes to ensure data quality.
  • Set up outgoing data federation APIs to orchestrate clients’ data sharing processes.
  • Continuously monitor data pipelines to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Transform raw data into business-ready outputs for analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and document data pipeline issues, staging environment errors, and system output discrepancies, recommending solutions.
  • Partner with development and implementation teams to meet requirements and project deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in data operations, data processing, and cleansing.
  • Strong understanding of DataOps principles, database management systems (cloud and on-premises), query languages, and data modeling.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as SQL, Python, R, and HIVE for data extraction and analysis.
  • Skilled in data mining techniques and working with structured/unstructured datasets, including data for LLMs.
  • Experience creating and maintaining Data Dictionaries.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication abilities with a track record of managing multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and consistently follow through on tasks.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DoD security clearance (or the ability to obtain one).
  • Experience with DoD data sources, AI/ML workflows, and analytics environments is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with MS Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint) and relevant business/technical certifications is a plus.
