Job Summary
Our client is seeking an Accounting Specialist for a direct hire opportunity. This role supports the Accounting Department by performing a wide range of functions including posting journal entries, preparing financial statements, maintaining accounting records, and performing reconciliations. The specialist will also prepare various reports to ensure accurate financial information and compliance with banking regulations. This position requires working in the office and involves assisting with tax forms, managing loan and investment portfolios, and supporting the Assistant Controller and Controller with diverse accounting and reporting duties.
Must Have
- Assist in preparing ALCO/Board and Regulatory Reports.
- Perform weekly regulatory reporting.
- Calculate and post monthly expense accruals.
- Assist with year-end tax forms including property tax and sales/use tax returns.
- Complete daily reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
- Complete monthly certification of assigned general ledger accounts.
- Coordinate the Bank’s guaranteed loan purchase and investment portfolios.
- Assist employees and vendors with account-related questions.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and post bi-weekly journal entries.
- Process weekly backup withholding payments.
- Process quarterly holding company payments.
- Process monthly rent payments.
- Prepare Daily Liquidity & Financial report.
- Coordinate purchased SFR-Rocket portfolio, calculate and post monthly interest accruals.
- Support Assistant Controller and Controller with accounting and reporting duties.
- Perform investment accounting functions.
- Provide backup for reconciliations and accounts payable processing.
- Assist with research, filing, data entry, and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Handle sensitive or confidential information with honesty and integrity.
- Learn to work as part of the accounting team to compile and analyze data.
- Assume additional tasks and special projects.
- Perform routine clerical duties such as photocopying, filing, posting, and tabulating.
- Complete a minimum of 10 hours CRA volunteer hours per year.

The Accounting Specialist provides support to the Accounting Department by performing a wide range of accounting functions. These duties consist of but are not limited to posting journal entries, preparing financial statements, maintaining accounting and performing reconciliation/certifications over accounts. Additionally, the Accounting Specialist will be responsible for preparing reports throughout the month ensuring accurate financial information. This position requires that the individual work in office.
Ensures compliance within all Bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in preparation of ALCO/Board Reports and other Regulatory Reports when needed
- Performs the weekly regulatory reporting
- Calculates and posts monthly expense accruals
- Assists and performs year-end tax forms including property tax and sales/use tax returns.
- Completes daily reconciliation of the general ledger accounts which are maintained by other departments within the bank. Researches and resolves any reconciling differences, ensuring that all items are cleared within established timeframes
- Completes monthly certification of assigned general ledger accounts, including those maintained by the Accounting Department and other departments within the bank. Researches and resolves any reconciling differences, ensuring that all items are cleared within established timeframes
- Coordinates the Bank’s guaranteed loan purchase and investment portfolios
- Assists employees and vendors, by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services
- Monthly reconciliations of payroll accounts and bi-weekly posting of the payroll journal entries
- Weekly processing of backup withholding payments
- Processes quarterly holding company payments
- Processes monthly rent payments
- Prepares Daily Liquidity & Financial report including significant variance research and explanation
- Coordinates the Bank’s purchased SFR-Rocket portfolio. Also responsible for calculating and posting monthly interest accruals and processing and tracking interest receivables/receipts.
- Supports the Assistant Controller and Controller in performing other various accounting and reporting duties as needed
- Perform investment accounting functions
- Backup for reconciliations, accounts payable processing, and other duties as needed.
- Assisting with research, filing, data entry, and recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial records
- Handling sensitive or confidential information with honesty and integrity
- Learning how to work as part of the accounting team to compile and analyze data, track information, and support the company or clients
- Assumes additional tasks and special projects to broaden knowledge of accounting practices and office operations
- Performs routine clerical duties such as photocopying, filing, posting, and tabulating
- Minimum of 10 hours CRA volunteer hours per year. Volunteer hours are typically scheduled within business hours. This is compensable time and mileage is reimbursed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years’ experience in Accounting
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or equivalent combination of education/experience desired
- Basic understanding of accounting and financial principles
- Advanced Excel skills required
- Aptitude for math, proficiency with computers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical skills with experience in measuring and improving processes to meet department and/or organization goals.
- High level of efficiency, accuracy, and responsibility
- Motivation and a strong desire to take on new challenges and learn as much as possible
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently (self-directed) and with others as part of a team.
- Ability to work scheduled full-time hours and maintain regular attendance.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
- Attention to detail is required with a proven ability to research and analyze financial results.
