Job Description

Join the Autodesk Building Design team as a Principal Full Stack Engineer to develop and maintain Autodesk Insight, a cloud service for energy-efficient building design. You will collaborate with product owners and designers, focusing on secure, scalable, highly available, and performant service development. Responsibilities include high-quality code development, architectural contributions, process improvement, tool recommendations, documentation, deployment coordination, and production support.
Must have:
  • Develop high-quality, secure, and stable code covered by unit tests
  • Contribute to software design and architecture using cloud design patterns
  • Improve processes and deliverables for team efficiency
  • Research and recommend tools, services, and standards
  • Document and present ideas and solutions accurately
  • Coordinate change deployment and release testing efforts
  • Support production services in an on-call rotation
  • Act as an escalation contact for service incidents
  • Mentor teammates and participate in Agile team meetings
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience building large-scale web applications
  • Strong understanding of web application architecture
  • Strong experience with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript
  • Experience with at least one front-end framework/library (React, Angular, or Vue)
  • Experience creating secure and scalable web services
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, WebSockets
  • Experience with Test-Driven Development and unit testing
  • Knowledge of security best practices for modern cloud services
  • Experience with CI/CD concepts and deployment pipelines
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud infrastructure technologies
  • Understanding of basic network infrastructure and components
  • Comfortable working in Linux and Windows environments
Good to have:
  • Experience with Node.js and Python
  • Experience with AWS services (EC2, ECS, S3, RDS, Batch)
  • Experience with microservices architecture and Docker containers
  • Experience with Jenkins
  • Familiarity with cloud security and secure development lifecycle

Position Overview

If so, we invite you to join the Autodesk Building Design team, the makers of Autodesk Revit.

We’re seeking an accomplished and highly motivated Full Stack Engineer to join our cross-functional Agile team. Our team is focused on building the next generation of Autodesk Insight, a cloud service that empowers architects and engineers to design more energy-efficient buildings using advanced simulation engines and building performance analysis data integrated into Autodesk Revit.

As a Principal Engineer, you will work across the full stack, collaborating with the product owner, experience designer, and other engineers to develop and maintain a secure, scalable, highly available, and performant service. You will play a key role in system design, evaluate implementations, and conduct code reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality, secure, and stable code covered by unit tests
  • Contribute to software design and architecture by leveraging cloud design patterns and applying your cloud expertise throughout the development lifecycle
  • Improve processes and deliverables to increase team efficiency and responsiveness to customer and business needs
  • Research and recommend tools, services, and standards for engineering efforts
  • Document and present ideas and solutions accurately and thoroughly
  • Coordinate change deployment and release testing efforts
  • Work closely with customers to support production services in an on-call rotation and act as an escalation contact for service incidents
  • Mentor teammates, learn from others, and actively participate in Agile team meetings

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience building large-scale web applications
  • Strong understanding of web application architecture (data, application, web tiers, etc.)
  • Strong experience with fundamental web technologies: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, with a solid understanding of core principles
  • Experience with at least one front-end framework/library (React, Angular, or Vue)
  • Experience creating secure and scalable web services with a strong understanding of foundational communication protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, WebSockets)
  • Experience with Test-Driven Development and unit testing
  • Knowledge of security best practices for modern cloud services
  • Experience with CI/CD concepts and deployment pipelines
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud infrastructure technologies
  • Understanding of basic network infrastructure and components (load balancing, NAT, scaling, etc.)
  • Comfortable working in Linux and Windows environments
  • Self-motivated, autonomous, empathetic, and an excellent communicator

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Node.js and Python
  • Experience with AWS services (EC2, ECS, S3, RDS, Batch)
  • Experience with microservices architecture and Docker containers
  • Experience with Jenkins
  • Familiarity with cloud security and secure development lifecycle
