About the Role
As a Principal Solutions Architect at Cognite, you will play a central role within the Technology department of our Global Delivery organization. Our international presence includes offices in Austin and Houston, Oslo and Tokyo. Our team is composed of a mix of project managers, data scientists, data engineers, and solutions architects, with sectoral expertise in oil and gas, energy, and manufacturing. This specific position is part of the EMEA Delivery organization.
In this client-facing role, you will work directly with key clients, field sales teams, delivery teams, and product development. You will leverage your experience and technical skills to help our industrial clients improve their productivity and profitability, while reducing their environmental impact and costs. Our clients are large international companies in the energy and process sectors, facing challenges in asset performance, maintenance, production efficiency, and sustainability. With the team, you will define solutions and support each integration through to successful completion.
A typical day as a Cogniter will include the following tasks and responsibilities:
- As a Principal Solutions Architect, you will be an expert in how we implement our SaaS offerings and Cognite applications. Your primary responsibility will be to work with project teams to map needs for quality implementation, ensuring that:
- The appropriate data visualization technology is optimally used (e.g., Power BI, Grafana, Plotly Dash)
- Data transformation technology is adequately used (e.g., Databricks, Azure, GCP, AWS)
- Data is effectively modeled and contextualized in Cognite Data Fusion (e.g., in graphs or relational)
- Integrations are well-designed and robust
- Important quality criteria for the solution are met (e.g., CI/CD, logging, security)
- Operational responsibilities and support agreements for the delivered solution are clearly defined
- You will be responsible for:
- Designing the overall technical solution and ensuring its suitability with the client ecosystem and target architecture
- Designing the integration and data model using Cognite data connectors, SQL, Python/Java, and Rest APIs
- Being a credible advisor to our clients and partners regarding Cognite Data Fusion
- Collaborating on identifying account risks, as well as mitigation actions that may involve product, delivery, and management teams
- Working collaboratively with Sales, Engineering, and Product Management teams to translate client needs into concrete offers
- Mentoring and supporting Solution Architects within the department
- Providing insight into relevant laws and regulations that influence our products and solutions
We believe most of these points should match your experience:
- Over 10 years of experience as an application, data, solutions, or enterprise architect
- Perfect command of English
- Willingness to travel if necessary
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the heavy asset industry, related to downstream, petrochemicals, or energy (required)
- Experience with operational data and understanding of customer business drivers in the heavy asset industry
- Consulting experience, allowing you to confidently negotiate requirements with clients and colleagues
- Experience in enterprise integration, client relations, or IT integration design
- Experience in data and analytics projects, with the ability to independently oversee implementation
- Extensive technical experience with data and analytics technologies
- Knowledge of Business Intelligence tools and enterprise analytical platforms (Power BI or equivalent)
- Experience in operations, including support and change control, as well as in solutions architecture
- Strong technical background, ready to directly intervene in code for advanced topics if necessary
- Strong architectural skills in data modeling and infrastructure solutions, such as classic data warehouses and Big Data architectures
